The researchers interviewed 32 peple aged 59 t 83. Pets included dgs, cats, birds, etc. Mre than 90% f the peple spke abut tuch in the relatinship with their pets. “Participants ften described tuch-based interactins with their pets as being cmfrting r relaxing in a way that cntributed t their verall well-being,” the researchers say. “Fr ur participants, cmfrt is the sense f being smehw cared fr by anther being.”
Many peple in the study spke abut hw their pets just seemed t “knw” when they weren’t feeling well and they’d mve t get physically near them. Different pets were better at prviding cmfrt, sme participants insisted. Many said cats were mre relaxing than dgs, while thers said dgs culd be relaxing as lng as they were “the right kind f dg”. Janette Yung, lecturer in health sciences at the University f Suth Australia, and her team uncvered an interesting thing abut the pet-human relatinship.
