Leaving India fr the United Kingdm t pursue my research career, I felt mre ut f place than befre. At wrk, I separated myself frm the discussins, let alne putting frward my pinins. I was afraid my clleagues wuld see me thrugh and realize hw weak I really felt. Sme mrnings, just stepping ut f my rm and ging int the lab seemed a challenging task.
That began t change after a quiet breakdwn in the lab urged me t cntact the university‟s mental health services. I was advised t attend a cncert by a famus singer frm my mtherland. There I was in the crwded cncert hall, surrunded by strangers — all f us clapping and singing the familiar sngs.
Sn, I planned a day trip t a charming city a few hurs away. As I tk pictures f the beautiful surrundings, and enjyed a lemnade there, I realized nbdy was really paying any attentin t me. My cnfidence grew as I enjyed mre lcal day trips. My grwing self-cnfidence carried ver t wrk, where I started t speak up and put frward my pinins. I began t ask questins during departmental meetings.
S, when an imprtant cnference relevant t ur research came arund, I felt cmfrtable registering t attend n my wn. Nt nly did I meet the speakers, but I als intrduced myself t ther attendees and industry representatives, chatting abut their prducts. The experience inspired me t critically evaluate my wn prfessinal interests.
Since then, I have had the cnfidence t mve t ther cuntries, enthusiastic abut new pprtunities. Traveling alne made me realize that I have the cmpetence t grw and succeed, just like everyne arund me, and it helped me get rid f the weight f self-dubt that used t hld me back.
Hw did the authr feel when he first came t the United Kingdm?

What did the cncert mean t the authr?

He discvered new interests in his field.
What is the best title fr the text?

Clthing rental is a ht new industry and retailers (零售商) are demanding t get n bard in hpes f attracting shppers wh care abut ur planet.
But is renting fashin actually mre envirnmentally-friendly than buying it, and if s, hw much mre? Jurnalist and authr Elizabeth Cline investigated this questin and cncluded that it‟s nt as sustainable (可持续的) as it seems.
Take shipping, fr example, which has t g tw ways if an item is rented — receiving and returning. Cline writes that cnsumer transprtatin has the secnd largest carbn ftprint f ur cllective fashin habit after manufacturing (生产).
She writes, “An item rdered nline and then returned can send ut 20 kilgrams f carbn each way, and increases up t 50 kilgrams fr rush shipping. By cmparisn, the carbn impact f a pair f jeans purchased frm a physical stre and washed and wrn at hme is 33.4 kilgrams, accrding t a 2015 study by Levi‟s.”
Then there‟s the burden f washing, which has t happen fr every item when it‟s returned, even thugh it was nt wrn. Fr mst rental services, this usually means dry-cleaning, a high-impact and plluting prcess. All the rental services that Cline lked int have replaced perchlrethylene (氯乙烯), a carcingenic (致癌的) air pllutant, still used by 70 percent f US dry cleaners, with alternatives, althugh these aren‟t great either.
Lastly, Cline fears that rental services will increase ur appetite fr fast fashin, simply because it‟s s easily accessible. There‟s smething called “share-washing” that makes peple waste mre precisely because a prduct r service is shared and thus is regarded as mre ec-friendly. Uber is ne example f this, advertised as “a way t share rides and limit car wnership,” and yet “it has been prven t discurage walking, bicycling, and public transprtatin use.”
Renting clthes is still preferable t buying them cheap and thrwing them in the dustbin after a few wears, but we shuldn‟t let the availability f these services make us t satisfied. There‟s an even better step — that‟s wearing what is already in the clset.
What can we learn frm Elizabeth Cline‟s investigatin?
Rental services are the main cause f share-washing.
Rental fashin is nt s envirnmentally-friendly as it seems.
Pllutin caused by dry-cleaning can be avided if handled prperly.
Items bught frm stres give ut mre carbn than rental nes.
With the figures in Paragraph 4, Cline intends t shw that .
clthing rental has becme the new fashin
renting fashin actually sends ut mre carbn
prducing the clthes has the largest carbn ftprint
rdering a rented item nline is the best fr ur envirnment
What des the example f Uber in Paragraph 6 imply?
Rental services are n the rise.
Clthing rental will be as successful as Uber.
Renting clthes might waste mre than expected.
Renting clthes might make peple lse interest in fast fashin.
The authr suggests that we shuld _.
    A. nt rent any clthingB. purchase inexpensive clthes
    C. rent clthes rather than buy themD. make full use f clthes we‟ve had
    D
Accrding t a recent study in the Jurnal f Cnsumer Research, bth the size and cnsumptin habits f ur eating cmpanins can influence ur fd intake. And cntrary t existing research that says yu shuld avid eating with heavier peple wh rder large prtins ( 份 ), it‟s the beanples with big appetites yu really need t avid.
T test the effect f scial influence n eating habits, the researchers cnducted tw experiments. In the first, 95 undergraduate wmen were individually invited int a lab t stensibly (表面上) participate in a study abut mvie viewership. Befre the film began, each wman was asked t help herself t a snack. An actr hired by the researchers grabbed her fd first. In her natural state, the actr weighed 105 punds. But in half the cases she wre a specially designed fat suit which increased her weight t 180 punds.
Bth the fat and thin versins f the actr tk a large amunt f fd. The participants fllwed suit, taking mre fd than they nrmally wuld have. Hwever, they tk significantly mre when the actr was thin.
Fr the secnd test, in ne case the thin actr tk tw pieces f candy frm the snack bwls. In the ther case, she tk 30 pieces. The results were similar t the first test: the participants fllwed suit but tk significantly mre candy when the thin actr tk 30 pieces.
The tests shw that the scial envirnment is extremely influential when we‟re making decisins. If this fellw participant is ging t eat mre, s will I. Call it the “I‟ll have what she‟s having” effect. Hwever, we‟ll adjust the influence. If an verweight persn is having a large prtin, I‟ll hld back a bit because I see the results f his eating habits. But if a thin persn eats a lt, I‟ll fllw suit. If he can eat much and keep slim, why can‟t I?
What is the recent study mainly abut?
    A. Fd safety.B. Eating behavir.
    C. Cnsumer demand.D. Mvie viewership.
What des the underlined wrd “beanples” in Paragraph 1 refer t?
    A. Big eaters.B. Tall thin persns.
    C. Picky eaters.D. Overweight persns.
Why did the researchers hire the actr?
T see hw she wuld affect the participants.
T test if the participants culd recgnize her.
T find ut what she wuld d in the tw tests.
T study why she culd keep her weight dwn.
On what basis d we “adjust the influence” accrding t the last paragraph?
    A. Hw hungry we are.B. Hw slim we want t be.
    C. Hw we feel abut the fd.D. Hw we perceive thers.
