Researchers at MIT and in China develped a simple, slar-pwered water desalinatin (脱盐) system. They have made a breakthrugh in getting fresh drinking water frm sea water by using sunlight.
As the research paper published in Energy & Envirnmental Science explains, equipment applied in this system includes several layers f fiat evapratrs (蒸发器) that turn water surces int fresh water thrugh slar energy, as well as cndensers (冷凝器) that cl the gas int the liquid. The authrs f the paper are MIT students Lenan Zhang and Lin Zha, Prfessr Evelyn Wang, and nine ther researchers at MIT and at Shanghai Jia Tng University in China.
Hw the system uses each f the multiple stages t remve salt frm the water is critical t its efficiency. The heat released per stage will be used by the next stage. In this way, the team’s device can cnvert (转换) the energy f sunlight int the energy f water evapratin with an efficiency f 385 percent.
The device can be cnsidered as a multilayer slar still. The heat is absrbed by its flat panels and then transferred t make water evaprate. The vapr then cls dwn and turns int liquid water n the next panel. As the water is cllected, the released heat is transferred t the next layer.
The team’s 10-stage system prduces pure water. Its quality is abve the city drinking water standards. It als has the highest yield cmpared t ther similar systems, at a rate f nearly six cubic decimeter per hur fr every square meter f the slar cllecting area. The system is distinguished frm sme thers by the fact that there is n accumulated salt t be gt rid f. Mst materials f the demnstratin unit dn’t cst much and are easy t get.
Further experiments will be carried ut n the device t ptimize the chices f materials and test its durability under realistic cnditins. Researchers will als wrk n the design f the device t make it mre cnsumer-friendly. It is expected that the system culd finally help develping regins that are shrt f electricity supplies but rich in sea water and sunlight handle water crises.
46.What cntributes mst t the high efficiency f the device?
    A. The recycling f released heat.B. The chice f materials.
    C. The use f multilayer equipment.D. The simplicity f the structure.
47.What is the main idea f Paragraph 4?
    A. What the device is fr.B. Hw slar energy is cllected.
    C. Hw the device wrks.D. What makes the device.
48.What makes the device different frm ther systems?
    A. The quality f water it prduces.B. Its zer accumulatin f salt.
    C. Its stable and high prductin level.D. The lw cst f its cndensers.
49.What des the underlined wrd “ptimize” mean?
    A. make cheapB. make perfectC. make diverseD. make beautiful
50.Why will researchers carry ut further experiments n the device?
    A. T make it suitable fr use by cnsumers.
    B. T make it envirnment-friendly.
    C. T check its perfrmance in labs.
    D. T reduce its cst.
One f the greatest surces f unhappiness, in my experience, is the difficulty we have in accepting things as they are.
When we see smething we dn’t like, we wish it culd be different. We cry ut fr smething better. That may be human nature, r perhaps it’s smething ingrained(根深蒂固的) in ur culture. The rt f the unhappiness isn’t necessarily that we want things t be different. Hwever, it’s that we decided we didn’t like it in the first place. We’ve judged it as bad, rather than saying, “It's nt bad r gd, and it just is it.”
In ne f my bks, I said “Yu shuld expect peple t mess up and expect things t g differently than yu planned”. Sme readers said it's t srrwful t expect things t g wrng. Hwever, it’s nly negative if yu see it as negative and judge it as bad. Instead, yu culd accept it as the way the wrld wrks and try t understand why that is.
This can be applied t whatever yu d: hw ther peple act at wrk, hw plitics wrks and hw depressing the news media can be. Accept these things as they are, and try t understand why they’re that way. It will save yu a lt f sadness, because yu’ll n lnger say, “Oh. I wish bad things didn’t happen!’’
Des it mean yu can never change things? Nt at all. But change things nt because yu can’t accept things as they are, but because yu enjy the prcess f changing, learning and grwing.
Can we make this wrld a better place? Yu can say that yu’ll cntinue t try t d things t help thers, t grw as a persn, t make a difference in this wrld. That’s the crrect path yu chse t take, because yu enjy that path. Therefre, when yu find yurself judging and wishing fr difference, try a different apprach: accept, and understand. It might lead t sme interesting results.
51.The authr believes that we feel unhappy maybe because ___________.
    A. it is ur natural emtin in the life
    B. culture asks us t be different frm thers
    C. everyne has their wn pinins n things

    A. acting well at wrk and in plitics
    B. feeling depressed fr the news media

    D. saying smething negative when bad things cme
54.In the last paragraph, yu are advised _____________.
    A. t help thers and make a difference

    C. t judge yurself and make a wish fr yu
    D. t try a new way when making the wrld better
55.What is the main theme f the passage?
    A. Expecting things t be different gives us hpe.
    B. Accepting can make ur life happier and better.
    C. Traditinal culture becmes rt f unhappiness.
    D. Judging gd r bad is imprtant fr ur wrld.
When I started my medical career, I wrked 80 t 100 hurs a week as a family dctr in a small twn in Idah. Sleep was an afterthught. It was the early 1990s and I bught a cffee machine, and served up 4 t 5 cups f cffee a day. I lived an extremely tiring life and pushed my way thrugh n adrenalin (肾上腺素).
I learned hw t keep myself awake despite my exhaustin. I didn’t have a stp buttn. I lived n adrenalin until my adrenalin ran ut and I suddenly gt very ill. Every system in my bdy brke dwn. I didn’t chse t change my life-my bdy chse fr me. That is when I had t learn t rebuild my life and my energy and respect the way my bdy wrked. I learned the hard lessn that my bdy was a bilgical rganism that needed care. I realized that if I wanted t enjy my life, I wuld have t learn the care and feeding instructins needed fr being a healthy wman.
