Egyptian tur guide says BRI makes his life splendid
    (文章来源:Glbal Times)
On the center f page 18 f the Peple's Daily newspaper issued n Dec. 25, 2023, there is a pht in which an Egyptian tur guide is passinately explaining smething t Chinese turists. This tur guide is Abbas El-Said. It is the secnd time fr him t be reprted by Peple's Daily, and the first time came 11 years ag when a jurnalist frm Peple's Daily, captured a mment f Abbas, wh was 28 and served as an assistant t the directr f the China Cultural Center in Cair, telling stries abut the 12 Chinese zdiac animals t lcal students at the Center. This pht appeared n page 19 f the June 8, 2012 editin f Peple's Daily.
"I always have the pht f this precius reprt in my phne, and I ften shw it t my friends, clleagues, family, and Chinese turists. It is my great hnr and pride that my pht appeared n Peple's Daily, China's largest newspaper!" Speaking f the 2012 interview by Peple's Daily, Abbas was still excited. Thugh Abbas had n elders in his family well versed in Chinese culture, he still develped a keen interest in China frm a yung age - a children's bk abut the East sparked his lnging fr China. After entering elementary schl, his curisity in and fascinatin with China further deepened as he learned the stries f the ancient Silk Rad, the faraway and beautiful cuntry f ancient China, and the wisdm-filled Cnfucius and Cnfucianism. Later, Abbas was admitted t the Chinese language department f Ain Shams University. In rder t excel in Chinese, he practiced thinking in Chinese, and his prgress was indeed remarkable.
The Egyptian man said that he had three dreams f his life - learning Chinese, being a tur guide, and serving as an envy f cultural exchange between Egypt and China. And he has always been prgressing steadily n this path he has planned. In 2006, Abbas cmpleted his studies at the age f 22 and went n t further his educatin at Sinai Cllege f Turism. After graduating in 2009, he fficially became a prfessinal Chinese-language tur guide. As a matter f fact, Abbas started receiving Chinese turists as a sphmre. "By wrking as a tur guide, I was able t earn an incme while practicing my Chinese. Mst imprtantly, being a tur guide allwed me t make friends with mre and mre Chinese peple," he nted. It was als during this year that Abbas started attending varius activities at the China Cultural Center in Cair. "The China Cultural Center is like a windw that pens up t Chinese culture, allwing a ray f sunshine t shine int my heart."
In 2010, Abbas became an assistant t the directr f the Chinese Cultural Center in Cair and served fr a perid f three years. "This jb gave me the pprtunity t share my lve fr Chinese culture with mre peple. Thrugh rganizing lectures, exhibitins, and events like the Chinese New Year temple fair, mre and mre Egyptians started t embrace Chinese culture and became fnd f it. Being able t cntribute t the bridge f friendship between Egypt and China made me feel incredibly happy," Abbas tld Peple's Daily.
Recently, Abbas has been studying a Chinese wrd "lianjie" (链接)," which means cnnectivity. "As ancient civilizatins, Egypt and China had friendly exchanges ver 2,000 years ag, which marked 'lianjie' in histry. The China-prpsed Belt and Rad Initiative (BRI) is 'lianjie' in cntemprary times that revitalizes the ancient Silk Rad," Abbas explained. He said China actively cperates with cuntries arund the wrld fr mutual benefit and win-win utcmes, and he believes that in tday's turbulent internatinal envirnment, peple will better understand the value and significance f the BRI.
Currently, "lianjie" is mre reflected in the synergy between the BRI and Egypt's Visin 2030. "The BRI is helping me fulfill my dreams and als benefiting my cuntry. China has helped us build the Central Business District in ur new administrative capital, where the Icnic Twer is knwn as the 'tallest building in Africa,' which makes us very prud," Abbas nted. He als tk the 10th f Ramadan Light Rail Transit prgram as an example, saying the prgram, as the first electrified railway in Egypt, adpts Chinese technlgies and equipment. "Many Egyptians, including myself, are persnally experiencing the tangible benefits and cnveniences brught abut by the BRI," he said. Abbas said his life wuld nt be the same if he had nt studied Chinese r if the BRI had nt cme t Egypt. "My life is splendid because f the BRI," Abbas nted.
Currently, Abbas is preparing t establish a cmpany that prmtes Chinese culture and fsters cultural and ecnmic exchanges between China and Egypt. "I am willing t d my part t strengthen the cnnectin between Egypt and China, bring the tw cuntries clser and build clser ties between the tw peples!" As turism exchanges between Egypt and China cntinue t flurish, Abbas has becme increasingly busy. Since the beginning f this year, he has been receiving an average f tw t three Chinese tur grups every mnth, with each grup staying in Egypt fr a minimum f ne week and a maximum f 20 days. His busy schedule reflects the accelerated develpment f bilateral relatins between China and Egypt, and highlights the successful implementatin f the BRI in Egypt.
In tday's Egypt, the pragmatic cperatin between China and Egypt has brught abut plenty f emplyment pprtunities, leading t a high demand fr Chinese-speaking talents. Learning Chinese has becme a ppular trend there. In September 2022, a pilt prject fr Chinese language educatin in Egyptian secndary schls was launched, marking the inclusin f Chinese language int Egypt's natinal educatin system. The grwing enthusiasm fr the Chinese language and Chinese culture in Egypt demnstrates that the mutual understanding between China and Egypt is built n mutual learning between the tw civilizatins, and the strngest ptential f China-Egypt cperatin lies in peple-t-peple bnd.

Bredm has, surprisingly, becme quite interesting t academics lately. In early May, Lndn's Bring Cnference celebrated seven years f delighting in dullness. At this event, peple flcked t talks abut weather traffic jams, and vending-machine sunds, amng ther sleep-inducing tpics.
What, exactly, is everyne studying? One widely accepted psychlgical definitin f bredm is "the unpleasant experience f wanting, but being unable, t engage in satisfying activities." But hw can yu measure a persn's bredm level and cmpare it with smene else's?
In 1986, psychlgists intrduced the Bredm Prneness Scale, designed t measure an individual's verall tendency t feel bred. By cntrast, the Multidimensinal State Bredm scale, develped in 2008, measures a persn's feelings f bredm in a given situatin.
Bredm has been linked t behavir issues including inattentive driving mindless snacking excessive drinking, and addictive gambling. In fact, many f us wuld chse pain ver bredm.
One team f psychlgists discvered that tw-thirds f men and a quarter f wmen wuld rather have electric shcks than sit alne with their thught fr 15 minutes. Researching this phenmenn, anther team asked vlunteers t watch bring, sad, r neutral films, during which they culd have electric shcks. The bred vlunteers shcked themselves mre and harder than the sad r neutral ne did.
But bredm isn't all bad. By encuraging self-reflectin and daydreaming, it can encurage activity. An early study gave participants abundant time t cmplete prblem-slving and wrd-assciatin exercises. Once all the bvius answers were exhausted, participants gave mre and mre inventive answers t fight bredm. A British study tk these findings ne step further, asking subjects t cmplete a creative challenge (cming up with a list f alternative uses fr a husehld item). One grup f subjects did a bring activity first, while the thers went straight t the creative task. Thse whse bredm pumps had been prepared were mre prductive.
In ur always-cnnected wrld, bredm may be a hard-t-define state, but it is a fertile ne. Watch paint dry r water bil, r at least put away yur smartphne fr a while, and yu might unlck yur next big idea.
    4. When are peple likely t experience bredm, accrding t an accepted psychlgical definitin? A . When they can't d what they want. B . When they experience unpleasant things. C . When they are engaged in sme rutines. D . When they dn't enjy what they are studying.
    5. What des the authr say bredm can lead t? A . Great determinatin. B . Mental health. C . Huge pain. D . Harmful cnduct.
    6. What is the findings f ne team f psychlgists in their experiment? A . Vlunteers prefer watching a bring mvie t sitting alne deliberating. B . Many vlunteers are unable t resist bredm lnger than fifteen minutes. C . Male vlunteers are mre immune t the effects f bredm than females. D . Mary vlunteers chse t hurt themselves rather than endure bredm.
    7. What des the authr suggest ne d when faced with a challenging prblem? A . Unlck ne's smartphne. B . Stp wrrying and think big. C . Spare sme time t be bred. D . Lk arund neself fr inspiratin
