Peple have cme t understand the enrmus impacts-beneficial as well as harmful- plastics have n human lives and the envirnment. As plymer (聚合物) scientists cmmitted t inventing sustainable slutins fr real-wrld prblems we set ut t tackle the issue f plastic waste by rethinking the way plymers are designed s we culd make plastics with recyclability built right in.
Everyday items including milk jug, grcery bags, and takeut cntainers are made frm a class f plymers called plylefins. These plastics are really durable (耐用的) because the chemical bnds in thse plymers are extremely stable. In a wrld set up fr dispsable (一次性的) items, durability is n lnger a design feature but rather a design drawback. Imagine if half the plastics used tday were recyclable thrugh twice as many prcesses as they are nw. Als cnventinal recycling requires careful srting f all the cllected materials, which can be challenging with s many different plastics. Fr example, separating paper frm metal desn’t require cmplex technlgy, but srting a cntainer frm a milk jug f a different plylefin is difficult t d withut the ccasinal mistake.
In a study published in Science in Octber 2023, we described a series f plymers with nly tw building blcks-ne sft plymer and ne hard plymer-that behave like plylefins but culd be chemically recycled. Cnnecting tw different plymers multiple times until they frm a single, lng mlecule (分子) creates what’s called a multiblck plymer. By changing hw much f each plymer type ges int the multiblck plymer, ur team prduced a wide range f materials with prperties that cvered all plylefin types.
Using the same strategy but by adding hydrgen, we culd discnnect the plymers back int their building blcks and easily separate them t use again. When we made new plymers ut f these recycled plastics, they perfrmed just as well as the riginal materials even after several runds f chemical recycling. S we were able t create materials with similar prperties f the plastics the wrld relies n. We believe this wrk is a step tward mre sustainable plastics.
    8. What is paragraph 2 mainly abut cncerning plastics?
    A. Their multiple uses.B. Their chemical prperties.
    C. Their recycling challenges.D. Their classificatin criteria.
    9. A key factr f prducing diverse multiblck plymers is ______.
    A. mixing building blcks with lng mlecules
    B. integrating chemicals int the tw plymers
    C. cmbining tw different multiblck plymers
    D. adjusting the percentage f the tw plymers
    10. Which is a feature f multiblck plymers?
    A. They are made frm sustainable materials.
    B. They can be recycled by adding hydrgen.
    C. Their reliability utperfrms traditinal plastics.
    D. Their prperties change with runds f recycling.
    11. Which f the fllwing might be the best title?
    A. Designing fr RecyclingB. Classifying Plastic Waste
    C. Replace Plastics with PlymersD. Technlgy Creates the Future

Literature makes us better thinkers. It mves us t see the multi-sidedness f situatins and therefre expands the width f ur wn visins, mving us twards dreams and slutins we might nt therwise have imagined.

When students study Literature, they learn t appreciate wrds and their pwer. They travel t ther areas and times thrugh the texts they read. They understand abut their wn culture and thers’. They learn t empathize (共情) with characters, t feel their jys and pain. Imprtantly, they lean t cnsider multiple aspects and understand the cmplexity f human nature. Take, fr example, Gerge Orwell’s Animal Farm. D we feel Naplen is fully respnsible fr the miserable lives the animals lead? Aren’t the ther animals respnsible fr their wn misfrtune t, having allwed Naplen t bully them? In Literature, as in life, things aren’t always s clear cut, in black and white. And there lies the value f the subject—it prepares ne fr the ambiguities (模棱两可) f life, t take uncertainties in ne’s stride.
Literature develps in students lasting values, such as integrity, sympathy, lyalty and respnsibility. Fr example, in a text like Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, the main character chses t sacrifice his wn life rather than betray his friends and neighbrs. When cnsidering this character’s mtivatins, students discuss the value f integrity. They reflect n what it takes t be a man r wman wh cmmands the respect f the peple arund them even in difficult situatins. The texts students explre give them multiple pprtunities t discuss and re-evaluate their wn values and beliefs. These act as a cmpass in life as students grw up.
    12. Why is an example f a 15-year-ld student mentined in the first paragraph?
    A. T raise peple’s awareness f appreciating thers’ culture.
    B. T appeal t readers t read mre Literature n Wrld War II.
    C. T remind students that Literature can make the wrld free f war.
    D. T shw Literature can make ne think frm thers’ pints f view.
    13. What des the underlined part prbably mean in Paragraph 2?
    A. Accept smething uncertain withut special effrt.
    B. Allw ne t take the ambiguities f life fr granted.
    C. Have the curage t face the misfrtune ccurring in life.
    D. Take the respnsibility t fight against the miserable lives.
    14. Accrding t the last paragraph, Literature can help students ________.
    A. lead a happy life
    B. build up right values
    C. get n well with friends
    D. handle difficult situatins
    15. What might be the best title fr the text?
    A. Where shuld students start when they study Literature?
    B. What will students gain thrugh the study f Literature?
    C. Why will Literature help students in their future success?
    D. Hw can we supprt students in their study f Literature?

    A. lead a happy life
    B. build up right values
    C. get n well with friends
    D. handle difficult situatins
    15. What might be the best title fr the text?
    A. Where shuld students start when they study Literature?
