In 2002, Britney Gallivan, then a junir in high schl in Pmna, Califrnia, flded a single piece f paper in half 12 times. She currently hlds the Guinness Wrld Recrd fr the mst times t fld a sheet f paper in half.
The prmpt that led Gallivan t accmplish these feats was an extra-credit challenge in math class t fld anything in half 12 times. Her teacher asked the students t fld smething thicker: a piece f paper.
Gallivan said "it was very frustrating, as I had many unsuccessful attempts at trying t fld different papers in half. I began t questin if flding paper in half mre than eight times culd be impssible." Hwever, Gallivan recalled. "I knew I needed t understand what was limiting the flding prgressin."
The equatins that Gallivan came up with calculated hw many times a sheet f paper culd be flded.
