Teachers wrried abut students turning in essays written by a ppular artificial intelligence chatbt nw have a new tl f their wn.
Edward Tian, a cmputer science majr at Princetn University, has built an App called GPTZer t detect whether a text is written by Chat GPT, which is a ppular chatbt that has caused fears ver its pssibility fr immral uses in American academic circles. His mtivatin t create the cmputer prgram was t fight what he sees as an increase in AI plagiarism (剽窃). Since the release f ChatGPT in 2022, there have been reprts f students using the language mdel t pass ff AI-written assignments as their wn. Many teachers have reached ut t him after he released GPTZer, telling him abut the psitive results they’ve seen frm testing it.
T determine whether an essay is written by a cmputer prgram, GPTZer uses tw indicatrs: “cnfusin” and “burstiness (突发性)”. The first indicatr measures the cmplexity f text; if GPTZer is cnfused by the text, then it has a high cmplexity and it’s mre likely t be human-written. Hwever, if the text is mre familiar t GPTZer — because it’s been trained n such data — then it will have lw cmplexity and therefre is mre likely t be AI-generated. Besides, the secnd indicatr cmpares the variatins f sentences. Humans tend t write with greater burstiness, fr example, with sme lnger r cmplex sentences alngside shrter nes. AI sentences tend t be mre unifrm.
In a demnstratin vide, Tian cmpared the App’s analysis f a stry in The New Yrker and a Linked In pst written by ChatGPT. It successfully distinguished writing between human and AI. Hwever, GPTZer isn’t flprf, as sme users have reprted when putting it t the test. He said he’s still wrking t imprve the mdel’s accuracy.
Tian is nt ppsed t the use f AI tls like ChatGPT. GPTZer is “nt meant t be a tl t stp these technlgies frm being used,” he said. “But with any new technlgies, we need t be able t adpt it respnsibly and we need t have prtectins.”
    28. What have sme students dne since ChatGPT was released?
    A. They have built language mdels frm ChatGPT.
    B. They have cpied AI-written text frm ChatGPT
    C. They have accessed their assignments thrugh ChatGPT.
    D. They have passed their writing exams thrugh ChatGPT.
    29. What can be inferred abut the tw indicatrs f GPTZer?
    A. The mre unifrm the text is, the mre likely it is t be AI-generated.
    B. The less cmplex the text is, the mre likely it is t be human-written.
    C. GPTZer smetimes cnfuses human-written texts with AI-generated texts.
    D. GPTZer is mre familiar with human-written texts than with AI-generated texts.
    30. What des the underlined wrd “flprf” mean in the furth paragraph?
    A. User-friendly.B. Time-efficient.
    C. Perfectly legal.D. Cmpletely reliable.
    31. What maybe Tian’s attitude t the use f AI tls?
    A. Favrable.B. Disapprving.C. Objective.D. Ambiguus.

Wuld yu make the same decisins in a freign language as yu wuld in yur native tngue? It may be intuitive that peple wuld make the same chices regardless f the language they are using, r that the difficulty f using a freign language wuld make decisins less systematic. We discvered, hwever, that the ppsite is true: Using a freign language reduces decisin-making biases (偏差).
Tgether with his students and cllabratrs, Prfessr Keysar has made discveries abut the impact f using a freign language n chice, the way that language mdality affects reasning, hw language affects health decisins and negtiatins, and mre. In a 2021study, Baz Keysar, a prfessr at the University f Chicag in the US, led an experiment cncerning hw freign languages relate t human ways f thinking.
Whereas peple were risk averse fr gains and risk seeking fr lsses when chices were presented in their native tngue, they were nt influenced by this framing manipulatin in a freign language. Peple were asked t make a chice: Take a guarantee f ne pund r take a 50 percent chance f winning 2.50 punds. When presented with this chice in their native language, mst peple tk the safe ptin f nly getting ne pund. But they were mre willing t make the riskier chice when asked in a freign language, leading t mre prfits verall, accrding t The Guardian. As Keysar put it, “Peple just hate the prspect (前景) f lsing, but they hate it less in a freign language. ”
Keysar and his team did anther experiment in which participants were given a series f related wrds like “dream”, “snze”, “bed” and “rest”. Later, when asked which wrds they remembered hearing, peple were mre likely t mistakenly remember “sleep”, which was nt n the list, in their native language. But it was much less likely t happen if they did the test in a freign language.
The evidence is clear: By learning a freign language, yu’re nt just learning a language — yu’re gaining a new state f mind.
    32. What aspect f the Baz Keysar’s research in 2021 fcus n?
    A. The impact f using a freign language n chice.
    B. The way that language mdality affects reasning.
    C. Hw language affects health decisins and negtiatins.
    D. The relatinship between freign languages and peple’s way f thinking.
    33. What des the underlined wrd “averse” in Paragraph 3 refer t?
    A. willingB. slwC. ppsedD. eager
    34. Why did Keysar and his team did the secnd experiment?
    A. T change peple’s attitude t the game.
    B. T prve a freign language influences the way f thinking.
    C. T shw the chice is mre crrect when using a freign language.
D T prve using a freign language leads t memries with greater accuracy.
    35. Which f the fllwing shws the develpment f ideas in the passage?
    I: Intrductin P: Pint C: Cnclusin
    A. B. C. D.
