Even if I wanted t ask smene fr a gd deed, which I did nt, there wasn’t a sul n the street.
    But as I pushed the dr f my apartment pen, I fund myself face t face with a wman at the mailbx with a set f keys in her hand. Obviusly she had a car and was ging ut. In that split secnd, desperatin vercame my pride and I blurted(脱口而出), “Culd yu pssibly give me a lift?” An dd lk crssed her face and she agreed withut hesitatin.
    On ur way t my schl, she spke s warmly that I felt cmfrtable. “Yu remind me f my grandmther.” I said. A slight smile crssed her lips. “Just call me Grandma Alice as my grandchildren d.” When she drpped me ff, I thanked her again and again.

    Nw, I must cnfess that, ccasinally, I “frgt” t charge ne f the phnes, s that at least I wuld get ne f them t be a little mre present the fllwing mrning at breakfast and I might hear smething abut their upcming day, rather than being cmpletely ignred.
    I never frgt t charge the same phne twice in ne week and s n ne seemed t get wise t my tricks, hwever this embldened me t take my cheating t new levels.
    Any phne left unguarded wuld be quickly kidnapped and whisked away t an undisclsed lcatin, nly t mysteriusly reappear when I deemed that its wner had engaged with the real wrld fr a sufficient amunt f time.
    Then ne night in February, it happened. A big strm hit ur rural village and we had a pwer cut. “Dad!” They screamed, ignrant f the sudden lack f light and heat and nly cncerned with the sudden lack f Wi-Fi. It began t dawn n them that they were faced with the living hell f being ff line and ff their phnes fr an amunt f time.
