In a new study, researchers fund a link between utdr educatin and science grades. The findings indicate utdr educatin culd be a prmising tl t help clse gender (性别) gap s in science. “The utdrs is a space where teachers can find tangible ways t make science cme alive,” says lead authr Kathryn Stevensn, assistant prfessr f parks, recreatin, and turism management at Nrth Carlina State University.

The researchers studied the impact f an utdr science educatin prgram called Muddy Sneakers n fifth graders’ science grades and knwledge f, and attitude abut, science.
Fifth graders frm western Nrth Carlina attended between 6 and 10 days f Muddy Sneakers. They had science lessns in nearby natural areas, including state parks and schl grunds. Outdr lessns fllwed the standard curse f study fr science thrugh hands-n activities, hikes, nature explratin, and reflectins.
Researchers cmpared the perfrmance f 237 students wh learned abut science in the classrm t 403 students wh participated in the utdr prgram. When researchers evaluated (评估) students’ science grades by gender, they saw that girls wh participated in the utdr science prgram maintained their science grades n average, while girls’ average grades in the traditinal science classes drpped. They als saw that participatin in the utdr prgram helped girls learn mre abut hw science wrks n average, but traditinal classrms did nt.
