I’m a walker, lgging an average f 9000 steps a day several times a week arund my neighbrhd. On recent trips t Cpenhagen and Stckhlm, I nticed tall, fit Scandinavians(斯堪法尼亚人) walking alng n city streets with ples, as if they were crss-cuntry skiing withut any snw.
It was a surprise t learn that the additin f the ples makes it a mre vigrus, full-bdy exercise than simply walking — and, as a 76-year-ld lking t stay healthy while enjying the utdrs, I decided t give it a try.
There’s plenty f help nline fr the new Nrdic(北欧的) walker: stand tall, swing yur arms ut as if t shake hands, and plant yur ples with vigur. Then there's the little matter f the strap(带子) n the ple. This allws the walker t grip the ple when thrusting frward and then relax that hand as the ther hand pushes frward — a skill f crdinatin that builds strnger muscles.
Fr a warm-up, I started slw: Nrdic walking dwn the hall that extends frm my frnt dr t the deck. Keeping balance wasn’t my nly prblem. The nvel use f my arms and upper bdy was surprisingly demanding. After half an hur, my heart was punding and I was sweating, but I still wasn’t much gd.
Still, I carried n because there’s n arguing with the exercise’s benefits. Nrdic walkers’ upper-bdy exercise increases their heart rate significantly mre than walking withut ples. And accrding t cardilgist Dr Aarn Baggish, with ples “yu’re engaging 80 t 90 per cent f yur muscles.” It als helps peple with Parkinsn's, says Burrill. “We put ples in their hands and it’s amazing because they start walking with real rhythm.” 江苏省海安高级中学 景苏华 QQ:771515126
After a few clumsy days f being cnvinced I wuld never succeed, suddenly everything clicked. Nt nly was I able t crdinate the mvements, I was aware that my heart, arms and cre were getting a wrkut. Nrdic walking is a frm f exercise I expect t enjy fr years t cme.
24. What inspired the writer t try Nrdic walking?
A. Enjying the utdr skiing. B. Observing Scandinavians walking.
C. Getting tired f simple walking. D. Fancying a healthy lifestyle.
25. What was the main challenge fr the authr during the initial stages f Nrdic walking?
A. Building strng muscle in the arms. B. Using arms and upper bdy harmniusly.
C. Sweating with heart punding. D. Feeling discuraged fr lack f prgress.
26. What des the authr want t shw by mentining peple with Parkinsn's?
A. The great benefits f Nrdic walking. B. The wide practice f Nrdic walking.
C. The urgency t prmte Nrdic walking. D. The prmising future f Nrdic walking.
27.What is the authr‟s intentin in writing this passage?

Televisin has transfrmed plitics in the United States by changing the way in which infrmatin is spread, by altering plitical campaigns, and by changing citizen's patterns f respnse t plitics. By giving citizens independent access t the candidates, televisin reduced the rle f the plitical party in the selectin f the majr party candidates. By centering plitics n the persn f the candidate, televisin accelerated the citizen's fcus n character rather than issues.
Televisin has altered the frms f plitical cmmunicatin as well. The messages n which mst f us rely are briefer than they nce were. The stump speech, a plitical speech given by traveling pliticians and lasting 1 t 2 hurs, which was ppular in the nineteenth-century, has given way t the 30-secnd advertisement and the 10 secnd “sund bite” in bradcast news. Increasingly the audience fr speeches is nt that standing in frnt f the plitician but rather the viewing audience wh will hear and see a shrt vide f the speech n the news.
In these simplified frms, much f what cmprised the traditinal plitical speech f earlier ages has been lst. In 15 r 30 secnds, a speaker cannt establish the histrical cntext that shaped the issue in questin, cannt detail the prbable causes f the prblem, and cannt examine alternative prpsals t argue that ne is preferable t thers. In shrt vides, pliticians assert(断言)but d nt argue.
Because televisin is an intimate(亲密的)medium, speaking thrugh it requires a changed plitical style that is mre cnversatinal, persnal, and visual than that f the ld-style stump speech. Reliance n televisin means that increasingly ur plitical wrld cntains memrable pictures rather than memrable wrds. Schls teach us t analyze wrds and print. Hwever, in a wrld in which plitics is increasingly visual, infrmed citizenship requires a new set f skills.
Recgnizing the pwer f televisin's pictures, pliticians craft televisual, staged events designed t attract media cverage. Much f the plitical activity we see n televisin news has been crafted by pliticians, their speechwriters, and their public relatins advisers fr televised cnsumptin. Sund bites in news and answers t questins in debates increasingly sund like advertisements.
32. What d we knw abut “stump speech” in paragraph 2?
A. It’s an event created by pliticians t attract media attentin.
B. It’s an interactive discussin between tw pliticians.
C. It’s a kind f plitical presentatin typical f the nineteenth century.
D. It’s a style f speech cmmn t televised plitical events.
33. It is suggested in paragraph 4 that ________.
A. pliticians need t learn t becme mre persnal
B. attractive pliticians are favred by citizens
C. citizens tend t favr a plitician wh analyzed issues
D. citizens need t learn hw t evaluate visual plitical images
34. What can we infer frm the passage?
A. Plitical presentatins tday are mre like advertisements than in the past.
B. Pliticians tday tend t be mre familiar with the views f citizens than in the past.
C. Citizens tday are less infrmed abut a plitician's character than in the past.
D. Plitical speeches tday fcus mre n details abut issues than in the past.
35. What’s the best title fr the passage?
A. Televisin: an Agent f Change in Plitics
B. Televisin: a Platfrm fr Plitical Debate
C. Televisin: an Alternative t Stump Speech
D. Televisin: a New Medium fr Cmmunicatin

“Have yu decided n yur majr?” my parents inquired.
“Biengineering, f curse.” I respnded withut the slightest hesitatin.
I entered this wrld with Pland syndrme, a disease that prevented the frmatin f my right arm and pectral muscles(胸肌). My parents, believing that playing with Leg culd enhance my dexterity(灵巧), gifted me my first kit when I was five. Struggling t piece the cmpnents tgether, I crafted my first Leg wrk — a car.
As I gt lder, I grew bsessed with Leg Technic, a mre advanced range, and hw t use it t build mre delicate structures. By the age f nine, I had fashined my first prsthetic arm(义肢)using Leg Technic — a simple bx that perfectly accmmdated my right arm.
This early creatin sparked my drive fr further explratin. Years later, I develped anther prsthetic arm that I called the MK-1, which had fingers, a mtr, a pressure sensr, a mvable elbw jint, and a grabber capable f picking things up.
Befre cnstructing it, I had already decided against traditinal prsthetics. Nt because they were ineffective, but because playing with Leg did significantly imprve my dexterity, helping me adapt t my cnditin. Hwever, a mre frustrating reasn was that prsthetics were t expensive. My parents and I had lked int getting ne a few years earlier, nly t be discuraged by the prhibitive price. S, I cncluded that I might nt need ne because I was managing well withut. Nevertheless, the jy f creating prsthetics with Leg remained, and I cntinued making them purely fr the fun f it.
As the years passed, my creatins evlved frm MK-1 t the mre advanced and cmfrtable MK-V. It featured a cntrl unit that culd send and receive rders frm sensrs n the arm t the mtrs, with cables that cntract like muscles.
One day, a cuple with their eight-year-ld sn, wh lst bth arms in an accident, reached ut t me after learning abut my creatins. Shrt f mney, they culdn’t affrd well-functining prsthetics. “Daniel,” the father earnestly asked, “we were wndering if yu culd pssibly help build a set f prsthetics fr ur sn.”

The subsequent days witnessed hw I carefully selected the Leg pieces that catered t the by’s interests, meticulusly assembled them t frm a functining prttype, and intricately integrated practical cmpnents like sensrs and mtrs t enhance its flexibility. Days turned int weeks, and the by-custmized prsthetics, MK-VI, finally tk shape. Rigrus trials cnducted, functinality checked, it’s time fr them t fulfill their intended purpse.

45.C 句子中提到了“take my seat”,即“坐下”,所以应该选择C选项“seat”(座位)。
