ⅠⅡⅢⅣⅤⅥShe is a postdoctoral researcher in the university’s Department of Psychiatry. She was the lead author of a report on the study.The researchers set out to examine the connection between social media use and sleep among young adults.The researchers wanted to find out how often young people used social media sites like Meta,Twitter and etc.For the study,they gave questionnaires to nearly 1,800 adults,aged 19 to 32.On average,members of the study group used social media sites one hour a day.They also visited various social media accounts 30 times per week.Thirty percent of the study’s participants reported having serious problems with sleeping.Those people who used social media a lot were three times more likely to have a sleep disorder.And those who spent the most time on social media were two times as likely to suffer from sleep disturbances.ⅠⅡⅢⅣⅤⅥFrequent checking is a big part of the problem.Levenson said the number of times a person visits social media is a better predictor of sleep problems than overall time spent on social media.If this is true,she adds,then practices that stop such behaviors may be most effective.Researchers say social media can influence sleep patterns in a number of ways.People can lose sleep by staying up too late looking at social media. Sensitive issues argued about on social media can cause “emotional,cognitive or physiological” excitement.Using an electronic device can disturb a body’s natural sleep rhythms because of the light coming from cellphones or computer screens.The researchers note that in some cases,young adults who have a hard time sleeping may use social media to help them fall asleep.ⅠⅡⅢⅣⅤⅥ“It also may be that both of the hypotheses(假定) are true,” says Brian A.Primack.He is director of the Center for Research on Media,Technology and Health.He is also the study’s senior author.Primack says,“Difficult sleeping may lead to increased use of social media,which may in turn lead to more sleep problems.This cycle may be particularly problematic with social media.Many forms of social media involve interactive screen time that is stimulating(刺激) and rewarding and,for those reasons,can keep you awake.”【语篇导读】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了经常使用社交媒体的年轻人更可能有睡眠问题。 ⅠⅡⅢⅣⅤⅥ1.From the results of the questionnaire,who are more likely to have a sleep problem?A.The participants aged 19 to 32.B.The participants visiting social media frequently.C.The participants using social media sites one hour a day.D.The participants spending the most time on social media.答案 B ⅠⅡⅢⅣⅤⅥ解析 细节理解题。根据第一段中的“They found that young people who often use social media are more likely to suffer from sleep disorders than those who use social media less.”和第三段中的“Thirty percent of the study’s participants reported having serious problems with sleeping.Those people who used social media a lot were three times more likely to have a sleep disorder.And those who spent the most time on social media were two times as likely to suffer from sleep disturbances.”可知,经常访问社交媒体的参与者更可能有睡眠问题,故选B项。ⅠⅡⅢⅣⅤⅥ2.What is the main purpose of the passage?A.To compare and evaluate.B.To examine and reason.C.To inform and explain.D.To argue and conclude.答案 C 解析 推理判断题。文章主要介绍了经常使用社交媒体的年轻人更可能有睡眠问题。先介绍了这一发现,然后对此做了专家访问和问卷调查,来说明这个发现的证据,因此推断本文的主要目的是告知和解释,故选C项。ⅠⅡⅢⅣⅤⅥ3.What is the best title for the passage?A.Social Media Is Keeping Young Adults AwakeB.Difficult Sleeping Is Affecting Sleep PatternsC.Electric Devices Are Influencing Sleep RhythmsD.Young Adults Are Suffering from Sleep Disorders答案 A 解析 主旨大意题。根据第一段中的“A new study has found that social media could be affecting the sleep of young adults.”及全文可知,文章主要介绍了经常使用社交媒体的年轻人更可能有睡眠问题。所以“Social Media is Keeping Young Adults Awake”作为文章标题最为合适,故选A项。ⅠⅡⅢⅣⅤⅥⅤ.完形填空(2023江苏扬州高二上期中)Hunter Shamatt lost his wallet while he was on a flight from Omaha to Denver earlier this month.Upon realizing that his wallet was lost,he  1  the airline to see if anyone had turned it in—but fruitlessly. 2  the wallet contained his ID,a signed paycheck,$60 in cash,etc.,he feared the worst. Two days after the flight,however,Hunter was  3  to receive a package in the mail from an anonymous(匿名的) sender.Inside was his wallet— 4  an additional $40 in cash.“I rounded your cash up to an even $100 so you could celebrate the  5  of your wallet,”read a letter that was enclosed with the package. ⅠⅡⅢⅣⅤⅥHunter’s mother,Jeannie,posted a photo of the  6  to social media in the hope that they would be able to track down the sender.All they had to go on was that the letter was  7  from Applied Underwriters in Omaha and the sender’s initials were signed “T.B”.The sender was later  8  as Todd Brown,who was delighted to “have a little fun” with helping out a hard-working stranger. “I saw he was just a kid,20 years old.He had a paycheck in there,so I  9 ,‘Well,he’s doing his best to make ends meet.’” said Brown.“Hunter was very  10 .He told me he has some student loans to pay within two days so the  11  was right,” Brown added.“He  12  it was gone forever.So when he opened it,he just started screaming,‘No way!No way!’” ⅠⅡⅢⅣⅤⅥBrown says that he often tries to do good things without any recognition;
