    While Latanya said every neighbrhd deserved a bkstre, actually making it happen simply wasn’t pssible. What she came up with instead was t turn a bus int a bkmbile! With the help f her cmmunity, she raised mney fr her dream and, at the end f 2021, it came true! Brnx Bund Bks rlled ut in style as a bus with range cube bkshelves. “Peple lve the way it smells,” Latanya added. “One wman said the wd smell makes her feel like she’s at hme.”
    Althugh the bkstre n wheels carries arund 30,000 new and used bks, it has mre rm than yu might expect! Latanya als makes sure t prepare bks with a variety f characters, s all readers can see themselves in the pages. Of curse, her cllectin als features wrks f nted Black authrs like James Baldwin and Alice Walker. “It’s meant t be that way,” she explained, “because I remember ging t bkstres and having t lk thrugh bks just t find smene I felt I culd identify with.”
    Setting up her bkstre in a new spt each day, Latanya is ding her part t make sure that everyne in the neighbrhd has bks t read. That’s what Brnx Bund Bks is fr. “I can’t pen up a bkstre n every crner, but I can prbably pp up n tns f different crners,” she said.

    The keepers celebrated the breakthrugh. The frmula was simple and the main ingredient(成分)f the new frmula was easy t get: gat milk.
    The team had been thinking abut hw t imprve their milk recipe fr a lng time, says Katie Rwe, c-funder f Reteti, in the cmmunity-wned Namunyak Cnservancy. The rphanage had used human baby frmula since its establishment in 2016, but csts were high, cans had t be bught frm freign cuntries, and ingredients weren’t always natural. “I was lking at the ingredients, believing there were better chices ut there,” Rwe says.
    The new frmula has als been a success fr the Samburu cmmunity, which sells gat milk t the rphanage. Each mrning, Stamen Lemajng’s family and thers travel alng tree-lined rads t sell mre than 150 liters f milk t the rphanage. “We use the mney frm selling gat milk fr everything the kids t schl, paying hspital bills,” Lemajng says. “And in times f hardship last year, it has been a huge help. Then we culd even buy fd with it.”
