Acrss the glbe, natural stres f undergrund freshwater have been drpping. In nearly ne-third f these aquifers (含水层), that lss has been speeding up ver the last cuple f decades. That’s the finding f a new study in the Jan. 25 Nature.
Humans have been drawing water ut f aquifers faster than rainfall can replace it. Earth’s changing climate is als slwing hw fast water refills bth aquifers and surface lakes, which has been leading t water shrtages.
This study cllected water-level data dating back t 1980. Thse data came frm sme 170,000 water wells. They ffer a picture f nearly 1,700 natural stres f grundwater. Thse wells shw where water has been disappearing fastest. In 12 percent f these aquifers, water levels are nw drpping by mre than half a meter per year. And ne in three f these aquifers have shwn water levels drpping by a tenth f a meter per year.
In sme places, thugh, large grundwater stres have begun t grw——even after drpping at the end f the last century. Such changes likely cme frm managing these aquifers differently, the study suggests. One example is the Abbas-e Sharghi basin (盆地) in Iran, which has begun recvering after the gvernment built a large dam. It supplied the very dry regin with water.
The new study can be a big help in shwing where and why thse differences shw up, says Xu, c-authr f the study. And, Xu adds, they will help create a glbal baseline fr prper grundwater management. This wrk als helps highlight which parts f the wrld are mst at risk. There, water lsses may frce migratin (迁徙) f peple wh seek easy access t drinking water. Acrss the glbe, water is the key trigger fr human migratin. And peple living in dry regins suffer mst. Finding thse at-risk regins culd lead t timely plicy changes t prtect water resurces.
12. Which is the percentage f aquifers with water levels drpping by 0.1 meter per year?
A. Abut 12%.B. Abut 17%.C. Abut 33%.D. Abut 50%.
13. What des the authr want t say by mentining the Abbas-e Sharghi basin?
A. The lcals drew t much water ut f aquifers.B. It is hpeful that grundwater can be recvered.
C. Large grundwater stres disappear rapidly.D. It takes ages t repair plluted fresh water.
14. What des Xu think f the new study?
A. It reminds turists t stay safe during the trip.B. It enables us t share fresh ideas abut nature.
C. It frces peple t seek easy access t clean water.D. It will deliver benefits t grundwater prtectin.
15. What des the underlined wrd “trigger” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Reasn.B. Belief.C. Failure.D. Stress.
C 13. B 14. D 15. A

根据第四段“In sme places, thugh, large grundwater stres have begun t grw——even after drpping at the end f the last century. Such changes likely cme frm managing these aquifers differently, the study suggests. One example is the Abbas-e Sharghi basin (盆地) in Iran, which has begun recvering after the gvernment built a large dam.(然而,在一些地方,大量的地下水储量已经开始增长——即使是在上世纪末下降之后。
根据最后一段“The new study can be a big help in shwing where and why thse differences shw up, says Xu, c-authr f the study. And, Xu adds, they will help create a glbal baseline fr prper grundwater management.(该研究的合著者Xu说,这项新研究可以在揭示这些差异出现的地点和原因方面提供很大帮助。
及画线词后“And peple living in dry regins suffer mst.(而生活在干旱地区的人们受害最深。)”

设空位于段首,是本段中心句,根据后文“Hst events tgether, like a themed watch party fr a mvie r sprts game. Keep a guestbk fr yur apartment and have guests sign it. Yu culd even thrw a Pwerpint party.
位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“Living with a rmmate is a gd pprtunity t meet smene with a very different backgrund frm yurs. 可知,F项“In this case, yu can learn smething new frm yur rmmate (在这种情况下,你可以从你的室友那里学到一些新东西)”是对前文的总结,符合文意。故选F项。
