Have yu ever wrried that yu might smell bad? Well, yu d have a smell, but nt in the way yu think. The human bdy releases hundreds f chemical cmpunds int the air every day, and these cmpunds reveal much mre than just ur health habits; they can als indicate ur health situatins.
In 1971, chemist Linus Pauling identified 250 different gaseus chemicals in ur breath, knwn as VOCs. These VOCs riginate frm the bdy's metablic (新陈代谢) prcesses and are excreted(排泄) thrugh skin glands. While sweat cntributes t these VOCs, it nly accunts fr a small prtin f them.
VOCs can reveal a lt abut ur health. Fr example, a sweet-smelling breath culd be a sign f diabetes. Besides breath, VOCs are als released frm ur skin, and feces(粪便). A ntable case invlved Jy Milne, wh nticed a change in her husband's scent 12 years befre he was diagnsed with Parkinsn's disease. Knwn as “the wman wh can smell Parkinsn's,” Jy has been using her keen sense f smell t help scientists develp a simple swab test t diagnse the illnesses.
Animals with advanced sense f smell, like dgs, have demnstrated they can detect varius types f cancer in humans. Althugh these scents are ften undetectable t the human nse, they prvide evidence that ur bdies emit different scents when smething is wrng.
The relatinship between VOCs, and ur health is still being studied. Prfessr Mrin and her team are investigating whether skin VOC signatures can reveal persnal attributes. They have already shwn that they can predict a persn's age within a few years based n their skin VOC prfile.
In ne interview, Prfessr Mrin stated, “We are at a relatively early stage in this research area, but we have already distinguished males frm females based n the acidity f skin VOCs. We believe skin VOCs can reveal aspects f wh we are, such as nutritin, health and stress. These signatures likely cntain markers that can be used t diagnse disease.”
S, wh knws—maybe ne day we will be able t detect diseases simply by breathing int a device.
32. What d we learn abut the VOCs accrding t the passage?

C. T highlight VOCs’ ptential as diagnstic markers.
D. T illustrate they have the capability t detect cancers.
34. What future technlgy might arise frm the understanding f VOCs?
A. Devices that can breathe disease-causing VOCs.
B. Equipment that can analyze VOCs t diagnse diseases.
C. Persnalized perfumes that can mask disease-related VOCs.
D. Advanced facilities that can change VOC t imprve health.
35. Which can be a suitable title fr the passage?

Text 10(第20题为总结题)
Sme peple say we shuld study histry because we can learn frm the mistakes f the past . Hwever , I believe that takes away the enjyment f the subject . If we try t find sme use in these histrical stries frm bks , we just put ur present prblems int situatins that have nthing in cmmn . This is a lt like my dad . He was a scientist and was always very lgical . Hwever , his real passin was fr histry .(17) He wuld read his newspaper in the mrning , and then cmpare it with sme events frm an ancient civilizatin thusands f years ag . Ever since I started studying histry in university , I ' ve learned that might nt be the best way . When we see histry as a way t find slutins abut ur current issues , we make cnnectins that are incrrect . Wrse still , histry becmes bring .(18) We try t frce ur views and wrries nt the peple f the past . Instead , why nt just enjy the human stries ? If an bvius cnnectin des arise , then there might indeed be sme lessns there fr us . Hwever , in my pinin , nly when we read histry naturally , fr its wn enjyment , we will ntice thse lessns . That ' s the first thing I tell my students , and I d everything I can t make the subject fun .(19) Fr example , I direct them t watch mvies and g t museums , nt just read bks .
