Lking dwn thrugh the mixture f sand, stnes and ther sediments is like lking back in time.
That’s what Dr. Gdman was ding when she fund smething astnishing. It was a layer (层) f shells — all came frm the time the harbr was destryed. Dr. Gdman knew this shell layer had a stry t tell.
Usually, shells are part f the mixture f sediments cllected n the seaflr. A shell layer is as thin as yur finger. Yet Dr. Gdman was staring at a layer nearly 1 meter thick! Almst all the shells were brken.

It was nce cmmn t regard Britain as a sciety with class distinctin. Each class had unique characteristics.
In recent years, many writers have begun t speak the “decline f class” and “classless sciety” in Britain. And in mdern Britain everyne is cnsidered t be middle class.

Hwever, the 1995 pp sng “Cmmn Peple” puts frward the view that thugh a middle-class persn may “want t live like cmmn peple” they can never appreciate the reality f a wrking-class life.
12.What can be learned frm the recent study f public pinin?

C.In mdern Britain it is easy t recgnize a persn’s class.
D.In mdern Britain peple regard themselves scially different.
13.What’s the meaning f the underlined wrd “stratificatin” in Paragraph 3?
A.varietyB.divisinC.authrityD.qualificatin
14.What can we learn frm paragraph 4?
A.British attitudes twards accent date back t lng time ag.
B.British attitudes twards accent are based n reginal classes.
C.British attitudes twards accent are shared by the Americans.
D.British attitudes twards accent have changed in recent years.
15.What is the main idea f the passage?
A.The middle class is expanding.
