If yu've ever wndered why strms have names, yu' re nt alne. The questin has left many peple cnfused, especially cnsidering the practice is relatively new t the UK.
Simply put, strms have names because it makes them easier t keep track f, which, in turn, helps t make the public mre aware f them. The strategy was intrduced by the Met Office in 2014 after the UK weather service realized hw effective it's been in keeping peple safe in ther cuntries. "We have seen hw naming strms elsewhere in the wrld raises awareness f severe weather befre it strikes," Derrick Ryall, Public Weather Service at the Met Office, explained.
