    4.When we’re stressed, the brain sends a signal t the adrenal medulla (肾上腺髓质). That signal causes many unpleasant symptms. Until recently,
    mst scientists believe that muscles have nthing t d with stress because they dn’t influence hw the brain and the adrenal medulla cmmunicate.
    In fact, Strick, a leading neurscientist at the University f Pittsburgh, says he has lng been suspicius f claims that exercises building muscles like yga
    can decrease stress. “I need t see that there’s a cnnectin; that there’s a real bilgical basis,” he says.

    In 2016, Strick decided t study the cnnectin between muscles and stress by using a methd he pineered. Strick invented a prcess where he
    culd put a virus int an rgan t track the neural netwrk s that cnnect the brain and the muscles. “S we injected (注入)the adrenal medulla with a
    virus, and we tracked it back int the brain and then mapped which areas influenced the adrenal,” he says. “And that’s where the surprise came.”
    Essentially, Strick discvered that ur stress respnse is cntrlled by mre than just the ‘thinking’ part f the brain. Other parts f the brain, including
    thse cntrlling ur muscles, are als sending signals t the adrenal medulla. And the area f the brain that cmmunicates with the adrenal receives
    signals frm the cre muscles as well. S, strengthening thse muscles, Strick says, can adjust ur stress.
    When we’re tapping away at a cmputer in a chair all day, many f us feel mre mentally stressed. Strick recmmends strengthening the cre
    muscles s that sitting upright all day becmes mre natural. “Slump, and then sit up straight,” he says “And see what the difference they make t
    yur md.”
    Strick als says this discvery was a wake-up call fr his wn health. He credits his children, wh persuaded him t try yga years ag. “And I nce
