Climate change and beer might be tw things that rarely appear in the same sentence. But accrding t an article in the scientific jurnal Nature Plants, if the Earth gets warmer, yur Friday-night drink might get pricier.
The team behind the article mdelled the effect f extreme events n prductin f barley, the main ingredient f beer. "Extreme weather cnditins such as drught r heat will impact barley prductin. Barley is irreplaceable in beer making," said Xie Wei, first authr f the article. "If barley prductin drps, beer prductin will als drp, and beer might get mre expensive." When glbal temperatures rise t their highest, glbal beer supply will drp 16 percent. Prices will als hike due t drp f supply. Fr instance, a 4.84-U. S.-dllar price hike fr a 500 ml bttle is prjected in Ireland, almst dubling the previus price. Quality f that beer might als be affected. If barley cannt receive enugh irrigatin, quality f the prtein and carbhydrate in its grain will drp.
In fact, the effect f drught n beer prductin has been seen. Blmberg reprted that drught and heat caused a 30 t 40 percent drp in barley prductin in Eurpean barley prducing regins during summer 2018, leading t a 35 percent price hike f barley in France.
Hwever, reginal fluctuatins in barley prductin are still manageable nw. If prductin in ne regin fails, beer makers can make it up by imprting mre frm ther regins. But if climate change gets ut f cntrl, the impact will be glbal. Agriculture is incredibly vulnerable t climate change.
Xie pinted ut the impact f climate change is nt nly limited t staple crps. "We are nly using barley and beer as an example f high-added-value agricultural prducts," said Xie. "In cuntries like China, per persn cnsumptin f staple crps is drpping, but that f prducts such as dairy and beer is rising."
Beer, nt essential fr human survival, ccupies a majr part in culture arund the wrld. That gives peple yet ne mre reasn t care mre abut climate change.
    8. What can we knw frm the first tw paragraphs?
A . Extreme weather influences the price f beer. B . The mre irrigatin, the better quality f beer. C . It's necessary t replace barley in beer making. D . Effrts shuld be made t prmte beer prductin.
    9. Why is Blmberg's reprt mentined in Paragraph 3?
    A . T lead in a new tpic. B . T make a cmparisn. C . T give a supprting example. D . T prvide backgrund infrmatin.
    10. What des the underlined wrd "vulnerable" prbably mean in Paragraph 4?
    A . Imprtant. B . Sensitive. C . Adaptable. D . Resistant.
    11. What's the authr's ptential purpse t write the text?
    A . T ppularize agricultural prducts. B . T shw the imprtance f beer in culture. C . T draw peple's cncern n climate change. D . T indicate the impact f temperature n staple crps.

Living in a city is a well-knwn risk factr fr develping a mental disrder, while living clse t nature is largely beneficial fr mental health and the brain. A central brain regin, the amygdala (大脑杏仁核) invlved in stress prcessing, has been shwn t be less activated during stress in peple living in rural areas, cmpared t thse wh live in cities, indicating the ptential benefits f nature. "But s far the hen-and-egg prblem culd nt be slved, namely whether nature actually caused the effects in the brain r whether the particular individuals chse t live in rural r urban regins," says Snja Sudimac.
T achieve causal evidence, the researchers frm the grup examined brain activity in regins invlved in stress prcessing in 63 healthy vlunteers befre and after a ne-hur walk in Grunewald frest r a shpping street with traffic in Berlin. The results revealed that activity in the amygdala decreased after the walk in nature, suggesting that nature has beneficial effects n brain regins related t stress.
"The results supprt the previusly assumed psitive relatinship between nature and brain health, but this is the first study t prve the causal link. Interestingly, the brain activity after the urban walk in these regins remained stable and shwed n increases, which argues against a cmmnly held view that urban expsure causes additinal stress," explains Simne Kühn, head f the grup.
The authrs shw that nature has a psitive impact n brain regins invlved in stress prcessing and that it can already be bserved after a ne-hur walk. This cntributes t the understanding f hw ur physical living envirnment affects brain and mental health. Even a shrt expsure t nature decreases amygdala activity, suggesting that a walk in nature culd serve as a preventive measure against develping mental health prblems and reducing the ptentially disadvantageus impact f the city n the brain.
In rder t investigate beneficial effects f nature in different ppulatins and age grups, the researchers are currently wrking n a study examining hw a ne-hur walk in natural versus urban envirnments impacts stress in mthers and their babies.
    12. What des the hen-and-egg prblem refer t?
    A . A prblem hard t clarify. B . A prblem easy t deal with. C . A prblem cmmn t be seen . D . A prblem unnecessary t slve.
    13. Hw did researchers cllect evidence fr the study?
A . By quting authritative experts. B . By interviewing healthy vlunteers. C . By researching n a previus thery. D . By cmparing vlunteers' amygdala activities.
    14. What cntributin did Simne's team mainly make?
A . Cnfirming nature's benefits t brain health. B . Supprting a cmmnview f urban expsure. C . Revealing the link between age and mental health. D . Identifying the causes f mental health prblems.
    15. What may the fllw-up research fcus n ?
A . Benefits f a regular walk in nature. B . An appeal fr living in urban regins. C . Nature's psitive effects n different grups. D . Relatinship between nature and brain health.
