Have yu ever wndered hw yur favrite NBA team received its famus name? All NBA teams have an interesting stry r a histry behind their names. Sme f the names reflected the city's culture r histry, thers came frm previus wners and many were selected thrugh "Name the Team" cntests.
Fr teams like the Ls Angeles Lakers and the Utah Jazz, the names were nt always a reflectin f the city. Even thugh Ls Angeles has n lakes, the Lakers name has been a city treasure fr almst 40 years. Befre ging t Ls Angeles, the team riginated in Minneaplis, Minnesta. In 1947, team fficials changed the name t the Lakers t reflect the Minnesta State's nickname, "Land f 10,000 Lakes". The team name went unchanged after mving t Ls Angeles in 1960.
Because the Utah's team riginated in New Orleans, Luisiana, it was called the Jazz. In 1974, New Orleans club fficials chse the name t represent the city fr its reputatin as the "Jazz Capital f the Wrld". The name stayed with the team even after finding a new hme in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1979.
The riginal wner f the Chicag Bulls, Richard Klein, named the team the Bulls. He picked the name because a fighting bull is relentless and never quits. It seems there's nwhere left t run frm the micrplastic (微塑料的) pllutin. A small pilt study recently tk micrplastics frm ne f Eurpe's mst distant places, the French Pyrenees muntains, and fund as many micrplastics in the sil as yu might expect frm a big city like Paris.
The reasn? The wind. Researchers nw fear that ur planet's winds can pick up micrplastics frm abut anywhere and transprt them arund the wrld, smetimes in large quantities. "We'd kind f expected it in a city getting blwn arund," said Steve Allen frm the University f Strathclyde in the UK, ne member f the team. "But way up there? We expected t find sme," he said. "We didn't expect t find s many."
Micrplastics are pieces smaller than a fifth f an inch that have brken dwn frm larger pieces f plastic. The frces f nature dn't distinguish (区分) between materials like stnes and rcks, and plastics. Wind and waves hit plastics and break them dwn just the same, making them int dust that can then get swept up by the gentle wind and int the atmsphere. It's a cntinuing envirnmental cncern, as mre and mre micrplastics find their way int ur fd and air.
The fact that micrplastics can be fund in large numbers even in distant places is a sign that is has becme a glbal pllutin prblem. Steve Allen and his team set up cllectrs 4,500 feet up in the muntains fr five mnths t trap plastic particles (粒子) as they fell t the Earth. The team fund that an average f 365 plastic particles fell n their square meter cllectr daily. This included bits frm plastic bags, plastic film and packaging material, amng ther plastic surces.
