Imagine(想象) a place where nthing ends up in the rubbish bin. Everything can be reused and recycled. Hwever, the real wrld is the ppsite. A recent reprt shws that nly 7.2% f all used materials are recycled.
Frtunately, a cmpany in Milan named Krill Design decided t slve the prblem. Set up in 2018, the cmpany has made plenty f useful items. Its designs include chairs, clcks, bwls, lamps and sme ther furniture. But what makes these items special is that they are made frm a kind f plastic-like material—Rekrill. It is fully bidegradable(可生物降解的) and can be used ver and ver again.
"After years, yu have t change yur furniture anyway,"says Marc, a wrker at Krill Design.
"But if yur furniture is made frm Rekrill, we will be able t recycle it and reuse the material. If ur material ends up in the sea by mistake, it desn't prduce any waste."
T make every item, fur steps are needed. First, the fd waste like fruit peel(皮) is dried and made int pwder(粉末). Then the pwder is mixed with a material knwn as PHB. Next, the mixed material is turned int Rekrill. At last, it is put int a 3D printer t print items. Printing time can be different depending n the item, The lamp, fr example, takes abut three hurs t print.
"Our material prduces n waste, but it csts prbably six times mre than plastics," Marc says. "'It is als very difficult t make the material, s we understand why many cmpanies aren't ding it." He expects Rekrill t be widely used in a few years.
