[2023·北京卷,B]Sitting in the garden fr my friend's birthday, I felt a buzz (振动) in my pcket. My heart raced when I saw the email sender's name. The email started ff: “Dear Mr Green, thank yu fr yur interest” and “The review prcess tk lnger than expected.” It ended with “We are srry t infrm yu...” and my visin blurred (模糊). The psitin—measuring sil quality in the Sahara Desert as part f an undergraduate research prgramme—had felt like the answer I had spent years lking fr. I had put s much time and emtinal energy int applying, and I thught the rejectin meant the end f the rad fr my science career.
S I was shcked when, nt lng after the email, Prfessr Mary Devn, wh was running the prgramme, invited me t bserve the wrk being dne in her lab. I jumped at the chance, and a few weeks later I was equally shcked—and verjyed—when she invited me t talk with her abut ptential prjects I culd pursue in her lab. What she prpsed didn't seem as exciting as the riginal prject I had applied t, but I was ging t give it my all.
I fund myself wrking with a rbtics prfessr n techniques fr cllecting data frm the desert remtely. That prject, which I culd cmplete frm my sfa instead f in the burning heat f the desert, nt nly survived the lckdwn but wrked where traditinal methds didn't. In the end, I had a new scientific interest t pursue.
When I applied t graduate schl, I fund three prgrammes prmising t allw me t fllw my desired research directin. And I applied with the same anxius excitement as befre. When I was rejected frm ne that had seemed like a perfect fit, it was undubtedly difficult. But this time I had the perspective (视角) t keep it frm sending me int panic. It helped that in the end I was accepted int ne f the ther prgrammes I was als excited abut.
Rather than setting plans in stne, I've learned that smetimes I need t take the pprtunities that are ffered, even if they dn't sund perfect at the time, and make the mst f them.

[2024·河南省南阳市开学考试]VARK is a questinnaire that helps with yur learning by suggesting the strategies yu shuld be using. Accrding t VARK, sme peple learn best by reading materials, while thers are mre visuallyriented (视觉导向的) and must see smething t understand. Others might fall int the auditry learning subtype, meaning they tend t understand materials by listening t instructins. There are als kinesthetic (动觉的) learners, r thse wh learn best thrugh handsn activities.
Learning style theries had their ppularity in the 1990s, when Beth Rgwsky was just starting as a middle schl teacher. “At that time, when my students were given sme learning material, if they disliked reading it, they culd listen t it instead as lng as they'd like t listen t thers reading it; whatever they preferred, they wuld be encuraged t d it,” says Rgwsky, wh is nw an assciate prfessr f teaching and learning at Blmsburg University in Pennsylvania.
But when it cmes t preferred learning styles, there's a prblem. The idea f using learning styles emerged in the 1980s as many researchers viced their supprt, but few actually tested their cncepts t cnfirm the validity in randmized, experimental settings. In the 2000s, when researchers started t d just that, they fund little evidence that matching students t their suppsed learning style helped them memrize infrmatin better.
Rgwsky herself has cnfirmed the belief that learning styles dn't hld up in her recent studies. In ne study published in Frntiers in Psychlgy this year, Rgwsky and her clleagues tested fifthgraders with preferred auditry and visual learning styles. Students were given standardized reading tests, in bth written and audi frmats. The team didn't uncver a relatinship between their preferred learning styles and academic perfrmance, accrding t Rgwsky.
The team's study nted that a preference t learn material using a certain methd culd mask skill lack. “Smene wh prefers t learn by listening instead f visual appraches might just have underdevelped reading skills. Letting students learn in their preferred manner desn't push them t imprve weaker skill sets,” Rgwsky says. “If yu need t imprve yur skills, dn't just keep ding what's easy t yu.”

    5.What's the purpse f Paragraph 1?
A.T explain the cmplexity f the learning prcess.
B.T inspire peple t actively engage in a questinnaire.
C.T shw different peple have different learning styles.
D.T suggest using VARK t chse efficient learning styles.
6.What did Beth Rgwsky use t d when she was a middle schl teacher?
    A.Encurage students t learn creatively.
B.Allw students t use their preferred learning style.
C.Help students imprve their reading and listening ability.
D.Prvide varied reading materials fr students t chse frm.
7.What des the underlined wrd “validity” in Paragraph 3 prbably mean?
    A.Crrectness. B.Faulty.
    C.Arrangement. D.Budget.
8.What can we learn frm Beth Rgwsky's wrds in the last paragraph?
A.Students need t fcus n their academic perfrmance.
B.Students shuld stick t their favrite learning materials.
C.Students hiding skill lack can bst their cnfidence.
D.Students shuld g beynd a certain preferred learning style.

    A
根据第一段中的“My heart raced when I saw the email sender's name”(当我看到邮件发送者的名字时,我的心跳加速了)可以推断,作者一看到发邮件人的名字就感到不安,故A项正确。
根据第二段中的“What she prpsed didn't seem as exciting as the riginal prject I had applied t, but I was ging t give it my all”可知,尽管Devn教授的提议并不如作者最初申请的项目那样令人激动,但作者在和Devn教授谈完之后,还是决定要全力以赴,故D项正确。D选项与文中的“give it my all”是同义转换。
根据第三段中的“I fund myself wrking with a rbtics prfessr n techniques”和“In the end, I had a new scientific interest t pursue”可知,作者在和机器人学教授工作之后,有了新的科学兴趣去追求。 demanding“费力的,要求高的”;inspiring“鼓舞人心的,激励的,启发灵感的”;misleading“误导的,引入歧途的”;amusing“有乐趣的,好笑的”。
reputatin“名誉,名声”;innvatin“创新,改革”;reslutin“有决心,决议”;restrictin“限制,约束”。
    B
根据文章第二段中的“ they preferred, they wuld be encuraged t d it”可知,Rgwsky在中学当老师时,会鼓励学生用他们喜欢的方式学习。
故填t be lifted。
故填their。
故填a。
