Three siblings spend the day building sandcastles and watching them get destryed by a flying hat. “T me it's a celebratin f childhd and the simple jys f life. These are the things I like t capture,” said Leng.
Leng spent part f her childhd in France, and she was inspired by Eurpean cmic bks “What I lve t d when I illustrate a picture bk is add side stries t the main stryline. I always think abut the readers and the lngevity f the bk, and I want them t be able t discver smething new every time they revisit the bk,” Leng explained.
At the end f the day, the sleepyeyed kids pile int the bus that will take them hme. “Thse last pages are sme f my favrite. They capture that feeling like at the end f the day n the beach, when it's getting dark and yu feel cmpletely exhausted,” Lawsn said. It must be a universal childhd feeling: happy with sand, sticky frm the salt, ht frm the sun, and ready t fall asleep the mment yu get int the car.
