Since reading cmprehensin is a highly cmplex prcess, earlier studies tried t break that prcess dwn and fcus n just ne aspect at a time: mapping fMRI signatures(特征)assciated with prcessing a single wrd r sentence, fr example. T address these issues, the researchers develped a cmputer prgram t lk fr patterns f brain activity that appeared when peple read certain wrds, specific grammatical structures, particular characters" names and ther aspects f the stry—a ttal f 195 different "stry features". In the study, they first asked eight vlunteers t read Chapter 9 f Harry Ptter and the Srcerer's Stne and recrded their brain activity using an fMRI scanner(扫描仪). Then the researchers fed the vlunteers' fMRI data int their cmputer prgram and had the prgram identify the respnses f different brain regins t the 195 features mentined abve.

Besides dialgue was specifically related with the right temprparietal junctin, a key area invlved in imagining thers thughts and gals. "This is truly shcking fr us as these regins aren't even cnsidered t be part f the brain's language system," Wehbe says.
Next, Wehbe and Mitchell hpe t study hw and why language prcessing can g wrng.
