There is a new study n teenagers wh are between 13 and 19 years ld. The study shws that tday’s teenagers are grwing up mre slwly than thse befre.
Scientists frm San Dieg State University have wrked n a study n the behavirs (行为) f 8 millin teenagers in seven different cuntries ver the past 40 years. The results tell us that cmpared t the teenagers in the past, tday’s teenagers are less respnsible (负责任的). And it takes them mre time t d the same things than their parents did. They are als less likely t have a part-time jb. What’s mre, when they get lder, they begin t knw that they shuld help their parents d husewrk, while their grandparents and parents helped d husewrk at a very early age. “This is a ‘slw life way’,” said Prfessr Jean Twenge.
“The develpment f tday’s teenagers has slwed dwn. 18-year-lds are mre like 15-year-lds in the past,” added Prfessr Twenge. “Teenagers tday are taking much fewer risks than thse in the past did.” Scientists have als fund that mre teenagers spend lnger time living with their parents instead f renting (租) their wn rms r apartments.
One f the reasns fr these behavirs is that tday’s teenagers wuld like t spend much time nline. They keep n cnnecting with scial media, watching vides r playing games n the Internet instead f living in the real wrld. Anther ne is that parents d much fr their children and prtect them t much. In fact, parents had better let their children d everything by themselves. They shuld try their best t make their children becme independent as sn as pssible.

“What’s the name f the man living next dr? I can’t remember it right nw.” Have yu ever heard yur grandparents ask questins like this? Usually, we think ld peple’s memries (记忆力) becme bad because their brains (大脑) can’t wrk quickly. But a team f German scientists has a different idea.
“The human brain wrks slwer in ld age,” said scientist Michael Ramscar, “but nly because they have kept much mre infrmatin ver time.”
The findings are a result f many cmputer simulatins (模拟) f learning and memry. Scientists let the cmputers read wrds and learn new things each day. When the cmputer “reads” nly s much, its result in memry tests is the same as that f a yung man. But if the cmputer learns much mre than that, its result is the same as that f an lder man. It is slwer because mre infrmatin makes the cmputer’s database (数据库) grw and the cmputer has mre data t wrk with —it takes time. This is the same as ld peple.
Think abut this. A man knws tw persns’ birthdays. Anther man knws the birthdays f 2,000 peple, but can nly match the right man t the right birthday nine times ut f ten. Can yu say that the first man has a better memry than the secnd ne? The fact is that “The larger the library yu have in yur head, the lnger it usually takes t find a wrd,” Benedict Carey, a science reprter fr the New Yrk Times, wrte in a reprt abut the study.
( )27. The writer uses the questin at the beginning t _________.
A. make readers think f their friends
B. say that many peple have bad memries
C. make readers interested in the passage
D. shw why lder peple like asking questins
( )28. The scientists did the study by _________.
A. asking ld peple questins
B. reading bks and sme useful reprts
C. fllwing the lives f a grup f ld peple
D. using cmputers t simulate man’s learning and memry
( )29. Why d ld peple frget ther peple’s names easily?
A. Because they have a very pr memry.
B. Because they are t ld t remember things.
C. Because there is smething wrng with their brains.
D. Because there is t much infrmatin in their brains.
( )30. What wuld be the best title fr the passage?
A. Is it better t be ld r yung?
B. Hw can man use their brains?
C. D ld peple have pr memries?
D. What are scientists’ new findings n brains?
