After eight years f cnstructin, the Padma Multipurpse Bridge in Bangladesh pened t the public n June 26, reducing travel time frm parts f the suthwest f the cuntry t the capital Dhaka frm seven t eight hurs t as little as just 10 minutes.
The 21.5-meter-wide, 6.15-kilmeter-lng bridge built ver the Padma River, the main branch f the Ganges, has tw levels with the upper tier having a fur-lane highway and the lwer tier a single-track railway, accrding t Wuhan-based China Railway Majr Bridge Engineering Grup, r MBEC, ne f China’s biggest bridge makers. Befre that, travelers and gds were transprted via bat r ship because f the vast width and fast-flwing nature f the river, and the tendency f the area t fld.
In 2014, the Bangladeshi gvernment awarded MBEC a $1.54-billin cntract t build the cre structure f the bridge, making it the cuntry’s largest infrastructure(基础建设) prject as well as the largest freign bridge prject undertaken by Chinese cmpanies in terms f ttal cst.

Feeling extremely stressed by yur t-d list can make yu unhappy, but a new study suggests that mre free time might nt be the magic way that mst f us dream it culd be.
The researchers analyzed data frm 35,000 subjects abut hw Americans spend their free time. They fund that peple with mre free time generally had higher levels f subjective happiness — but nly up t a pint. Cmpared t thse with less time, peple with up t tw hurs f free time a day generally felt better. Hwever, peple wh had five r mre hurs f free time a day generally felt wrse. S the free-time “sweet spt” might be tw t three hurs per day.
Part f finding this “sweet spt” is cnnected with hw peple spend their free time. In an nline experiment, the subjects were asked t imagine having fur t seven free hurs per day and spending that time ding “prductive” r “unprductive” activities. Mst f them believed their well-being wuld suffer if they had a lt f free time during the day — but nly if they used it unprductively. Thugh that experiment was based n the previus assumptins, which is ne limitatin, it agrees with ther experiments shwing that being in a state f flw (心流状态) can benefit peple’s mental health.
Of curse, fr yu, any activities that increase yur happiness are “prductive”. If watching sap pera in yur free time makes yu feel better, yu shuld d that due t self-care. And sme traditinally prductive activities can be easy and fun. Fr example, walking and cking can help burn stress and put peple in a state f flw.
“In cases where peple find themselves with large amunts f free time, such as retirement r unemplyment,” Sharif said, “ur results suggest they can benefit frm spending their newfund time with purpses.”
32. Hw much free time ne day d peple have that can generally make them feel better?
33. What des the third paragraph mainly tell us?
A. Hw being in a state f flw can benefit peple’s mental health.
B. Hw the researchers analyzed data frm the 35,000 subjects.
C. Hw “prductive” activities are different frm “unprductive” nes.
D. Hw peple make use f their free time influences their happiness.
34. Hw can we understand the “prductive” activities in paragraph 4?
35. What did Sharif say t peple wh have a lt f free time?
A. Peple shuld spend their time with aims.
B. It is nt easy fr peple t have newfund time.

Much f the wrk in tday’s wrld is accmplished(完成) in teams. Mst peple believe the best way t build a great team is t gather a grup f the mst talented individuals. ___36___Cmpanies spend millins hiring tp business peple. Is their mney well spent?
___37___They fcused n ftball, basketball and baseball. The results are mixed. Fr ftball and basketball, adding talented players t a team prves a gd methd, but nly up t the pint where 70% f the players are tp talent; abve that level, the team’s perfrmance begins t decline. Interestingly, this trend isn’t evident in baseball, where additinal individual talent keeps imprving the team’s perfrmance.
T explain this phenmenn, the researchers explred the degree t which a gd perfrmance by a team requires its members t crdinate(协调) their actins. ___38___In baseball, the perfrmance f individual players is less dependent n teammates. They cnclude that when task interdependence is high, team perfrmance will suffer when there is t much talent, while individual talent will have psitive effects n team perfrmance when task interdependence is lwer. If a basketball star is, fr example, trying t gain a high persnal pint ttal, he may take a sht himself when it wuld be better t pass the ball t a teammate, affecting the team’s perfrmance. Yung children learning t play team sprts are ften tld, “There is n I in TEAM.” __39___
Anther pssibility is that when there is a lt f talent n a team, sme players may make less effrt. Just as in a game f tug-f-war(拔河比赛), whenever a persn is added, everyne else pulls the rpe with less frce.
___40___ An A-team may require a balance--nt just A players, but a few generus B players as well.
A. It’s nt a simple matter t determine the nature f talent.
B. Sprts team wners spend millins f dllars attracting tp talent.
C. The grup interactin and its effect drew the researchers’ attentin.
D. Stars apparently d nt fllw this basic principle f sprtsmanship.
E. Several recent studies examined the rle f talent in the sprts wrld.
F. Building up a dream team is mre cmplex than simply hiring the best talent.
G. This task interdependence distinguishes baseball frm ftball and basketball.
