When yu’re n a fishing bat, yu may see flcks f birds fllwing yur tracks, hping t catch a snack. Nw scientists say they can use thse birds’ behavir t track (追踪) illegal fishing bats.
Here’s hw it wrked: Researchers attached data recrders t the backs f 169 albatrsses (信天翁) in the Suthern and Indian ceans. The devices weighed nly an unce and a half, but they included a GPS and were able t detect the presence and intensity f radar signals cming frm bats. That infrmatin was then transmitted (传输) by satellite, s the researchers culd track the lcatins f the birds — and thus the radar-emitting bats — in real time.
The scientists then crss-checked the data against the knwn lcatins f bats, gathered frm a system that bats use t declare themselves, called the Autmatic Identificatin System (AIS). And differences appeared frequently.
Mre than a third f the times the birds’ recrders detected radar signals, and therefre a bat, n such bat appeared in the fficial lg — meaning that the vehicles had likely switched ff their Autmatic Identificatin Systems — smething the researchers say prbably happens in illegal fishing peratins.
The wrk suggests birds culd be an effective bat-mnitring tl, as lng as illegal fishing peratins dn’t target the birds. Frtunately, such a task wuld be difficult.
“Arund fishing bats, yu can get hundreds f birds at any ne time that are all flying arund. S it’s nt really pssible t target a specific bird. And the birds with recrders n are nt marked in any way. S it’s difficult fr fishermen t pick ut a specific bird,” said study authr Samantha Patrick, a marine bilgist at the University f Liverpl.
Patrick’s bigger cncern is that albatrsses are ften trapped by fishing lines. And thugh regulatins have been established t prevent that happening, illegal bats dn’t necessarily bey.
33.What behavir f albatrsses can be used t track illegal fishing bats?
    A.Seeking snacks n a bat.
    B.Fllwing a bat t catch fd.
C.Mnitring (监视) the lcatins f the bats.
D.Keeping an eye pen fr illegal activities.

    A.T carry a GPS.
    B.T recrd the birds’ behavir.
C.T detect radar signals frm bats.
    D.T help satellite transmit infrmatin.
35.Why did the fishing bats turn ff their Autmatic Identificatin Systems?
    A.They needn’t declare themselves.
    B.They were prbably fishing illegally.
    C.They didn’t want t send radar signals.
D.They wanted t avid being fllwed by albatrsses.
36.What is the best title fr the text?
    A.Birds — Humans’ Friends
    B.Data Recrders — A Helper t Albatrsses
    C.AIS — A System t Lcate Illegal Fishing Bats
D.Albatrsses —A Tl t Mnitr Illegal Fishing Bats
