Advcate Jyce Harman is wrking t build the mvement acrss the cuntry,in Rappahannck,Virginia. This little slice f rural landscape, with light cutting in frm three sides, still retains a view f the Milky Way.It is anther traditinally cnservative area f the cuntry, but Harman used her skill as a phtgrapher t develp grassrts supprt.
Harman received a permit t phtgraph the night sky at peple's hmes r turism businesses, ften featuring the Milky Way behind icnic (标志性的) structures in the cunty. The wners gt a free picture t shw neighbrs and family. Lud traffic desn't stp big animals like mse and bears frm crssing highways —nr des it keep smaller creatures frm being run ver by car tires. In just tw years alng ne stretch f highway in Utah,a ttal f 106 big animals were killed in car cllisins (碰撞).Peple are als hurt —abut 200 die every year in the mre than ne millin car cllisins in the US.
And the number f these deadly accidents is grwing. "Over the mst recently reprted 15-year perid,wildlife-vehicle cllisins have increased by 50 percent, with an estimated ne t tw millin large animals killed by mtrists every year," says Rb Ament, the rad eclgy prgram manager frm the Western Transprtatin Institute (WTI).
There's ne slutin, hwever, which's been remarkably effective arund the wrld in decreasing cllisins between cars and animals crssing the rad:wildlife under- and verpasses.Studies that lked at a crss-sectin f native species' deaths n highways in Flrida,Australia, and Mexic all shw that wildlife crssings save lives, bth humans' and animals'. "Yu can get reductins f 85 t 95 percent with crssings that guide animals under r ver highways," Ament says.
That's why these traffic-spanning bridges and tunnels —which have been ppular in Eurpe since the 1950s when the first was built in France —are shwing up wrldwide.Usually lking much like a regular verpass fr cars, but decrated with native plants, they aren't particularly nticeable unless yu knw what yu're lking fr.
And under crssings, which pass beneath highways t assist smaller animals, may be invisible t drivers. But they're helping cuntless species, frm gld mnkeys and pumas in Brazil t water vles (水鼠) in Lndn.Ament is even wrking n wildlife crssings fr highways that haven't been built yet in develping natins like Bhutan, which need safe places fr Asian elephants t crss their territries. As he pints ut,it's a lt easier —and cheaper —t build them during rad cnstructin than it is t retrfit (翻新),as has been dne in the US and Canada.

A. The causes f traffic accidents.
B. The frequency f car-animal cllisins.
C. The richness f animal diversity.
D. The cnsequences f lud traffic.
9.Hw des Ament feel abut the rle f wildlife crssings? ______

A. They lk pretty and mdern.
B. They are very cmplex in structure.

C. They have nt been prperly maintained.
D. They have impacted rad traffic negatively.

" It is pretty fixed," Cwell said. "Yu can always find a few in a big grup."
And there's sme evidence that the distributin f handedness has lasted fr thusands f years, with right-handers in the strng majrity and left-handers cmprising a mere part.T study examples f handedness in histry,French researchers examined Western Eurpean cave artwrk dating back 10,000 t 30,000 years.Ancient artists wuld hld their nn-dminant hands against a rck wall and use their dminant hand t blw clred dust nt it using a blwing tube, creating a negative image f their hand n the rck.The distributin f handedness fund in cave art is cnsistent with what we see tday.
Rel Willems is a senir researcher at the Dnders Institute fr Brain Cgnitin and Behaviur in the Netherlands. "Other animals als tend t have a handedness preference," Willems said. "But there is n ther species (ther than humans) that seems at the ppulatin level t be s strngly biased (偏见的) ."

B. By cnducting experiments in the lab.
C. By interviewing students nline.

14.What des the underlined wrd " It" in paragraph 4 refer t? ______
A. The number f right-handers.B. The increasing ppulatin.
C. The percentage f left-handers.D. The sample size in a grup.
