And it can als help fight drug resistance in patients with a BRAF-changed skin cancer. BRAF is invlved in managing cell grwth. A change in it results in abnrmal cell grwth. These BRAF changes are seen in half f all cases f skin cancers.
“We and ther grups have previusly discvered that ther animals-snakes, spiders, bees-have anticancer prperties,” said Dr. Maria, the study’s lead authr. “Hwever, in my current knwledge, the anticancer prperties f an ctpus species have never been studied r cnfirmed befre.
Current treatments face a few challenges including lw respnse rates, pisning and side effects, as well as drug resistance. The ctpus venm slws the grwth f BRAF-changed skin cancer. Mre imprtantly, it is safe t be used in large quantities— it is nt pisnus. Therefre, in cmbinatin with ther drugs, the treatments culd ptentially achieve better and safer patient utcmes.
It is very unlikely that the ctpus has specifically develped its venm t cntain an anticancer substance. Accrding t the researching team, the ctpus venm cntains ver 1,000 unique substances with several functins such as reducing pain and anticancer.
“In this study, we have shwn that the ctpus venm specifically targets BRAF-changed skin cancer. The next step is t examine whether similar prmising results are applicable fr ther BRAF-changed cancers.” said Dr, Maria. “Befre it can be used n patients, the team will need t perfrm several runds f lab testing and clinical trials t understand hw it wrks and its full ptential as a drug against skin cancer.”

Many ften find themselves cnsidering jbs belw their skill level in wrsening emplyment markets. But it turns ut that wrking in a jb belw yur skill level harms yur later chances f getting hired fr a better-paying jb mre apprpriate t yur qualificatins.
Scilgist David Pedulla at the University f Texas cnducted a study t examine hw jbs belw a persn’s skill level affect future emplyability. He tailred 2,420 applicatins and submitted them t 1,210 jb listings psted in five majr cities acrss the U.S. He varied the applicatins by gender, and als by emplyment status fr the previus year. Then he used cmputer mdels t analyze and cmpare the results. The results shw that applicants wh were psitined as wrking belw their skill level, regardless f gender had the lwest chances f getting called fr a jb interview.
These results shuld serve as a warning t anyne cnsidering taking a jb belw their skill level. While it might pay the bills in the shrt term, it can significantly hammer ne’s ability t return t the relevant skill level and pay grade at a later date.
Why might this be the case? Pedulla cnducted a fllw-up study with 903 emplyers. He asked them abut their ideas f applicants with each kind f emplyment histry, and hw likely they wuld be t recmmend each kind f candidate t an interview. The results shw that emplyers believe that men wh are emplyed in psitins belw their skill level are less cmmitted and less cmpetent than men in ther emplyment situatins. Thse surveyed als believed that wmen wrking belw their skill level were less cmpetent than thers, but did nt believe them t be less cmmitted.
The results f studies suggest that wrk belw skill level signals t emplyers men’s incmpetence and a lack f cmmitment. This is a disturbing reminder that the swrd f gender bias (偏见) des in fact cut bth ways.
32. Why d many peple chse jbs belw their skill level?
A. They fear bearing duties.B. They lack-self-cnfidence.
C. They face a tugh ecnmy.D. They pursue better-paying jbs.
33. Hw d the researchers carry ut the first study?
A. By cnducting interviews.B. By researching examples.
C. By making cmparisns.D. By ding surveys.
34. Which f the fllwing can best replace the underlined wrd “hammer” in Paragraph 3?
A. Ensure.B. Weaken.C. Test.D. Exercise.
35. What is the emplyers’ idea accrding t the fllw-up study?
A. Men are mre likely t get prmted.
B. Wmen are mre devted and capable.
C. Wmen behave better in jbs belw skill level.
D. Men shw talents in wrk f the relevant level.

Finally, the liquid is further prcessed t btain beet sugar, which is chemically nearly identical t sugarcane sugar.
The quantities f beet sugar and sugarcane sugar can be used equally in baking recipes. 40 While sme peple are able t tell a difference, many thers can’t tell whether a baked treat has been made with beet sugar r sugarcane sugar. S beet sugar smetimes can replace sugarcane sugar in a baking recipe.
