Tday the media paint a mixed picture fr the public cncerning the rle hackers play in ur sciety. On the ne hand they praise the skill hackers display when breaking int secure netwrks and causing damage with clever viruses. At the same time they dramatize the damages and think f the activity as a crime. The criminals are painted ut t be terrrists. This mixed message begs the questin as t whether r nt we shuld view hackers as criminals r thank them fr pinting ut security prblems in sensitive netwrks.
If we as the general public were unaware f the risks assciated with using the Internet t d business r deliver persnal infrmatin and hacker activities expsed us t this knwledge, we might view them as having helped us. We then wuld be mre careful t prtect urselves. The reality is, hwever, that the public is aware f the risks they are expsed t n the Internet and the cmputer industry is aware f weaknesses f security measures in netwrking already. Hence, n value is generated frm hackers taking advantage f the knwn flaws in rder t play a game f cat and muse with ther peple’s prperty(财产). Furthermre, since virus-scanning sftware is expensive and widely used, hackers are csting the public mney and resurces t prtect themselves frm their attacks.
There are laws in every state that address hacker activities either directly r as an extensin f existing laws. These laws set fairly clear guidelines n what is cnsidered legal and nt legal t d within the field f cmputer use. If a persn vilates these laws, then they have cmmitted a crime. If yu r I break int a huse r business and destry prperty we will expect t be held accuntable. Hackers are n different are shuld expect the same treatment. If I break int a huse and watch the wners TV r read their persnal files I have brken the law. The same is true fr a hacker wh breaks int a cmputer netwrk and accessed cnfidential infrmatin. Als, the Federal Gvernment has laws cncerning cmputer use; privacy f infrmatin that als apply t the typical activities carried n by the average hacker. Clearly it is a crime t engage in r pursue any activities in vilatin f these laws.
The cnclusin we shuld all cme t is that hackers are criminals by definitin f their activities and shuld nt be praised by the media. We d nt praise bank rbbers r burglars fr bypassing the security f ur hme r savings and lan. A clever r creative criminal can nt be excused f his r her crimes. If we cntinue t d this we encurage them t cntinue and put urselves at risk. Furthermre, they need t expect t pay the cnsequences fr their actins. We will all benefit by clearly understanding that a hacker is a criminal and nt t be praised r admired by ur children r us.

D yu lve t ck? Are yu feeling inspired by the mvie Ratatuille r all the fd-based reality TV shws n air tday? If s, wrking as a chef may just be fr yu. Hwever, befre yu rush ut and sign up fr cking schl, be aware that wrking as a chef isn't all very attractive. There's a lng ladder t climb befre yu reach the rank f head chef at a tp restaurant.
The first questin that many future chefs have is whether r nt they need t attend cking schl in rder t becme successful. The shrt answer is n – it is pssible t develp yur cking skills n yur wn, r t wrk yur way up the ladder frm a psitin as a prep ck r line ck. Hwever, if yu are able t invest in a cking schl educatin, it's definitely a gd idea. Cking schl will nt nly intrduce yu t ther elements f a chef's career – like sanitatin (卫生) and kitchen management – but will als help yu develp cnnectins that can help get yur career ff the grund.
Yur first jb as a chef will likely be at the bttm f the ladder. If yu attended cking schl, yu may find that yu're able t start ut as a prep ck in a nice restaurant, while chefs withut this degree may find emplyment as shrt rder r line cks in smaller restaurants and diners. Expect t wrk hard in these psitins – yu'll put in lng hurs n yur feet, carrying heavy pts and pans arund a steaming kitchen. And dn't expect t be paid much – chefs in these psitins typically earn abut $26,000-$32,000/year. Hwever, it is in these psitins that yu'll have the chance t learn frm mre experienced chefs and t prve yurself ready fr higher-level psitins.
Cmpetitin fr chef psitins can be fierce, but if yu've prven yurself t be talented and creative, yu may be invited t fill a secnd chef r assistant chef psitin. Yu may als be able t use yur experience t mve frm a smaller, unrenwned restaurant t a rated restaurant in the culinary capitls f the wrld. But dn't expect that the wrk lad will be reduced. If anything, these psitins are mre demanding that the entry-level psitins, since yu'll be respnsible fr mre f the kitchen peratins and fr ensuring custmer satisfactin. In additin, ne cmmn cmplaint f chefs wrking these psitins is the hurs – wrking ppular meal shifts may leave little time fr scializing utside f the restaurant.
With time and experience, yu may eventually be able t earn the title f head chef at a well knwn restaurant r finally fulfill yur dream f wning yur wn restaurant. It shuld g withut saying that these pprtunities are even mre cmpetitive and demanding than wrk at any ther level f the chef hierarchy (层). Yu'll be expected t prvide the creative visin fr the restaurant, cming up with new and innvative dishes t please yur patrns. In additin, yu'll als be respnsible fr the verall management f yur entire staff and all the kitchen peratins.
