Suddenly, his father’s wrds came t him. “When yu are in a tight situatin, dn’t panic. Use yur brain and think yur way ut f it.”
On a nearby hill, he culd see smke waving slwly skywards frm the chimney f the Nelsn family hme. “Bees dn’t like smke,” he thught. “They culdn’t get int the huse.” Andy raced twards the Nelsn huse, but the bees were gaining grund. Mdern inventins have speeded up peple’s lives amazingly. Mtr-cars cver a hundred miles in little mre than an hur, aircraft crss the wrld inside a day, while cmputers perate at lightning speed. Indeed, this lve f speed seems never-ending. Every year mtr-cars are prduced which g even faster and each new cmputer basts (吹嘘) f saving precius secnds in handling tasks.
All this saves time, but at a price. When we lse r gain half a day in speeding acrss the wrld in an airplane, ur bdies tell us s. We get the uncmfrtable feeling knwn as jet-lag; ur bdies feel that they have been left behind in anther time zne. Again, spending t lng atcmputers results in painful wrists and fingers. Mbile phnes als have their dangers, accrding t sme scientists; t much use may transmit harmful radiatin int ur brains, a cnsequence we d nt like t think abut.
Hwever, what d we d with the time we have saved? Certainly nt relax, r s it seems. We are s accustmed t cnstant activity that we find it difficult t sit and d nthing, r even just ne thing at a time. Perhaps the days are lng gne when we might listen quietly t a stry n the radi, letting imaginatin take us int anther wrld.
There was a time when sme peple’s lives were devted simply t the cultivatin f the land r the care f cattle. N multi-tasking there; their lives went n at a much gentler pace, and in a familiar pattern. There is much that we might envy abut a way f life like this. Yet befre we d s, we must think f the hard tasks ur ancestrs faced: they farmed with bare hands, ften lived clse t hunger, and had t fashin tls frm wd and stne. Mdern machinery has freed peple frm that primitive existence.

A. Objective.B. Critical.C. Optimistic.D. Negative.

“Image is everything.” An entire industry has been built upn the assumptin(设想) that image is everything, but when it cmes dwn t it, an appealing image is nt enugh. If there is n substance(事实) behind the image, the prduct, service r persn will fail eventually.
First f all, ne shuld cnsider hw imprtant image is in the selling f prducts and services. Advertising agencies have raised the art f creating an image t a state f near perfectin. Public cncept f that prduct r service is certainly managed by the images created by the advertising agencies. But if the prduct r service des nt live up t the image that was created, the custmer will be very dissatisfied and pssibly ask fr their mney back. Fr example, the Arthur Andersen accunting firm(会计事务所) had spent decades building up an image f trustwrthiness. But the recent scandal (丑闻) shwed that behind that image, it cheated in business practices. Despite the previus psitive image, the firm is being accused f criminal actins and it will prbably nt survive as a business unit. Althugh the image had been nearly perfect, the reality behind the image has led t the dwnfall f the wrld famus accunting firm.
Similarly, persnal advisers can build up a public image fr pliticians and mvie stars. Putting ut psitive news releases, making sure that nly the best phtgraphs are published, and ensuring that the persn is seen in all the right places can build up a very psitive image in the view f the general cmmns. But nce again, histry is filled with examples f bth pliticians and mvie stars that fell frm grace like the stry f the Hllywd actr giving in t the pressures f fame and frtune. With peple, just as with prducts and services, image is certainly imprtant, but withut psitive substance behind the image, failure is clse.
T summarize, it is clear that an appealing image is extremely imprtant t success, whether that image is related t selling a prduct r service r t the “selling” f a persn. But image is nly half f the equatin(等式 方程式). What lies behind that image is every bit as imprtant as the image itself —— the persn r prduct must deliver n(履行)that image r there is little chance fr lng-term success.
67. The dwnfall f the Arthur Andersen accunting firm is due t ________.
A. its dishnesty in business B. its previus images
C. its bad management D. its pr service
68. Why did sme famus peple fall frm grace?
A. Their images were nt well built up
B. They failed t live up t their images.
C. They felt much pressure frm the public
D. They paid little attentin t fame and frtune.
69. The structure f the passage is ________.
A: ArgumentP: PintC: Cnclusin
70. The authr tries t argue that _________.
A. image creates everything B. image is the key t success
C. truth is unlikely ever t be equalled D. truth and image are equally imprtant

Overall, the survey fund that many peple suffer frm the effects f pr quality sleep, sme examples f which are being unable t fall asleep and waking up in the middle f the night. The main factrs causing these prblems are pressure frm schl r wrk and a fast pace f life, but nise pllutin and light pllutin als interfere with sleep and cntribute t pr quality sleep. The survey's findings are particularly trubling because large 'numbers f peple were fund t have difficulty sleeping at night. The shrt-term effects f this are tiredness and truble cncentrating. If this happens fr a lng time, the risk f gaining weight and having a heart attack may increase.
There are many things yu can d t imprve the quality f yur sleep. First, yu shuld have regular sleep habits. Try t g t bed and wake up arund the same time each day.
