通常情况下,以结尾或在_e中,字母发本身的音/əʊ/;在u_e中, u发本身的音/juː/

一个元音可以构成一个音节,如:I /ai/;一个元音和一个或几个辅音结合也可以构成一个音节,如:me/mi: /,egg /eg/, bed /bed/。在有两个或者两个以上音节的音标中, 重音符号“”表示其后的音节是重读音节,要发得响亮,而非重读音节则发得轻且弱。
