The current urgency t cut plastics use is accelerating ur search fr new materials, especially fr cntainers that can hld liquids. But glass is an existing material that culd be the star f a net-zer carbn ecnmy. Wrldwide, glass manufacturing（制造）prduces at least 86 millin tns f carbn dixide every year. But mst f this can be eliminated（去除）when glass is recycled, and existing technlgies culd turn glass manufacturing int a mstly carbn-free prcess. The remaining emissins are a by-prduct f the chemical reactins between the raw materials. But sme f these materials can be replaced with crushed recycled glass, knwn as cullet. Carbn can als be saved by decarbnizing the prcess f melting the chemical mix during manufacturing. If the electricity surce were fully decarbnized, it wuld mean that the entire prcess f glass-making wuld effectively be carbn-free.

Carbn can als be saved by decarbnizing the prcess f melting the chemical mix during manufacturing.
