Imagine yu’re at a ftball game when this rude man sits next t yu. He’s lud, he spills his drink n yu, and he makes fun f yur team. Days later, yu’re walking in the park when suddenly it starts t rain heavily. The same guy frm the ftball game ffers yu an umbrella. D yu change yur mind abut him based n this secnd meeting, r d yu g with yur first impressin and write him ff?
Related research suggests that we’re quick t frm lasting impressins f thers based n their behavirs. On the ne hand, learning very bad, highly immral infrmatin abut smene usually has a strnger influence than learning very gd, highly mral infrmatin. This is because immral behavirs can better shw a persn’s true character.
On the ther hand, when frming and updating ur pinins abut thers, peple tend t give mre imprtance t behavirs that are seen as less cmmn. When thinking abut thers’ actins, certain areas in the brain will becme active. This brain activity is cnnected t hw ften peple think these behavirs happen in daily life. In ther wrds, the brain tries t decide if the persn’s behavir is cmmn r unusual.
There’s a gd meaning in this data: yur brain, and yu, might care mre abut the very bad, immral things anther persn has dne cmpared t the very gd, mral things, but it’s a direct result f the cmparative rareness f thse bad behavirs.
In the situatin with the rude-ftball-fan-turned-gd-persn, yur brain says, “Well, in my experience, pretty much anyne wuld lend smene their umbrella, but the way this guy acted at the ftball game, that was unusual.” And s, yu decide t g with yur first impressin.
Think abut the last time yu judged smene based n their behavir, especially a time when yu really feel like yu changed yur mind abut smene. Was the behavir that caused yu t update yur impressin smething yu’d expect anyne t d, r was it smething ttally ut f the rdinary?
What des the underlined wrds “write him ff” mean in Paragraph 1?
    A. Frgive him. B. Ignre him.
    C. Accept him. D. Fllw him.
    29. Why d bad behavirs have a strnger influence?
    A. They are mre memrable.
    B. They are seen as less cmmn.
    C. They culd frm lasting impressins.
    D. They better present a persn’s true nature.
    30. Which f the fllwing is yur final impressin t “the man”?
    A. Implite. B. Nisy. C. Kind. D. Careful.
    31. Which f the fllwing is a suitable title fr the text?
    A. The Imprtance f First Impressins
    B. A Rude Ftball Fan turning Int a Gd Persn
    C. Hw t Leave a Gd Impressin n Others
    D. What Will Influence Yur Impressin f Others
    D
Technlgy is never a neutral tl fr achieving human ends. Technlgical innvatins reshape peple as they use these innvatins t cntrl their envirnment. Artificial intelligence, fr example, is altering humanity.
While the term AI cnjures up anxieties abut killer rbts r catastrphic levels f unemplyment, there are ther, deeper implicatins. As AI increasingly shapes the human experience, hw des this change what it means t be human? Central t the prblem is a persn’s capacity t make chices, particularly judgments that have mral implicatins.
Aristtle argued that the capacity fr making practical judgments depends n regularly making them—n habit and practice. We see the emergence f machines as substitute judges in a variety f everyday cntexts as a ptential threat t peple learning hw t effectively exercise judgment themselves.
In the wrkplace, managers rutinely make decisins abut wh t hire r fire and which lan t apprve, t name a few. These are areas where algrithmic (算法的) prescriptin is replacing human judgment, and s peple wh might have had the chance t develp practical judgment in these areas n lnger will.
Recmmendatin engines, which are increasingly prevalent intermediaries in peple’s cnsumptin f culture, may serve t cnstrain chice and minimize luck. By presenting cnsumers with algrithmically selected chices f what t watch, read, stream and visit next, cmpanies are replacing human taste with machine taste. In ne sense, this is helpful. After all, machines can survey a wider range f chices than any individual is likely t have the time r energy t d n their wn.
At the same time, thugh, this selectin is ptimizing fr what peple are likely t prefer based n what they’ve preferred in the past. We think there is sme risk that peple’s ptins will be cnstrained by their past in a new and unanticipated way.
As machine learning algrithms imprve and as they train n mre extensive data sets, larger parts f everyday life are likely t becme utterly predictable. The predictins are ging t get better and better, and they will ultimately make cmmn experiences mre efficient and pleasant.
Algrithms culd sn—if they dn’t already---have a better idea abut which shw yu’d like t watch next and which jb candidate yu shuld hire than yu d. One day, humans may even find a way fr machines t make these decisins withut sme f the biases that humans typically display.
But t the extent that unpredictability is part f hw peple understand themselves and part f what peple like abut themselves, humanity is in the prcess f lsing smething significant. As they becme mre and mre predictable, the creatures inhabiting the increasingly AI-mediated wrld will becme less and less like us.
    32. What d we learn abut the deeper implicatins f AI?
    A. It is causing catastrphic levels f unemplyment.
    B. It is ding physical harm t human peratrs.
    C. It is altering mral judgments.
    D. It is reshaping humanity.
    33. What is the cnsequence f algrithmic prescriptin replacing human judgment?
    A. Managers n lnger have the chance t decide which lan t apprve.
    B. Peple are prevented frm participating in making majr decisins in the
    wrkplace.
    C. Peple lse the chance t cultivate the ability t make practical judgments.
    D. Managers d nt need t take the truble t determine wh t hire r fire.
    34. What may result frm increasing applicatin f recmmendatin engines in ur cnsumptin f culture?
    A. Cnsumers will actually enjy better luck.
    B. Cnsumers will have much limited chice.
    C. It will be easier t decide n what t enjy.
    D. Humans will develp tastes similar t machines’.
    35. Why des the authr say the creatures living in the mre and mre Al-mediated wrld
    will becme increasingly unlike us?
    A. They will n lnger pssess the human characteristic f being unpredictable.
    B. They will have lst the mst significant human element f being intelligent.
    C. They will nt be able t understand themselves as we can d tday.
    D. They will be deprived f what their predecessrs were prud f abut themselves.
