Then his friend Emily arrived and asked him t g t the Wildlife Care Center, where they vlunteered. On their way, the air was smky frm wildfires. Creative Prblem Slving (CPS) is a mdel fr addressing prblems and challenges in a creative way. It divides the creative prblem slving prcess int three general areas: Explring the Challenge, Generating Ideas, and Preparing fr Actin.
Explring the Challenge
Explring the Challenge invlves selecting a brad gal, pprtunity, r challenge and setting the directin fr wrk.
* Objective Finding
In Objective Finding, students identify a prblem r pprtunity t address. They learn t lk fr prblems and pprtunities that will allw them t take actin. Fr example, sme students were asked t d a reprt n the twn’s 250th anniversary (周年庆典). It was nt a “prblem” in the sense that there was any difficulty, but it was an pprtunity.
* Fact Finding
In Fact Finding, students learn as much abut the situatin as pssible. Fr the 250th anniversary grup, the curius students read twn histry, talked t lcal fficials abut planned celebratins, and spke t cmmunity members abut twn activities lng ag.
* Prblem Finding
In Prblem Finding, prblem slvers identify sub-prblems in their challenge. Students shuld list as many prblem statements as pssible befre chsing the ne that best expresses the prblem they chse t address. The anniversary grup’s prblem was smething like “In what ways might we celebrate the twn’s 250th anniversary s that it will be remembered?”
Generating Ideas
In this stage (阶段), prblem slvers cme up with as many varied and unusual ideas as pssible fr slving the prblem. Afterwards, a smaller number f ideas usually are selected t cntinue the CPS prcess. The 250th anniversary grup suggested numerus ideas fr a cmmunity celebratin: a twn festival, a new time capsule (胶囊), and a variety f schl prjects.
Preparing fr Actin
* Slutin Finding
In Slutin Finding, the shrt list f ideas is evaluated (评估). Students prbably find that the pint ttals may nt always identify the best idea. Smetimes an idea may rank (评级) high but be impssible t carry ut.
In the actual 250th anniversary grup, building a time capsule did nt utrank all ther ideas, especially thse cncerning cmmunity invlvement, but many class members lved that idea mre than any ther. They realized that fr this prject, class interest was truly imprtant, s they gave it additinal weight.
* Acceptance Finding
The final stage f the CPS prcess asks prblem slvers t create a plan f actin. They are t decide what needs t be dne and wh will be respnsible fr each task, and plan reasnable time frame.
The 250th anniversary grup needed detailed plans t realize their ideas. This stage f the prcess, in which they thught abut the details f cst, timing, and respnsibilities fr each prject, allwed them t plan ahead, thus aviding many difficulties later n.

A. A nvel mdel t deal with prblems.B. A creative way t enlighten learners.
C. A new methd t generate varied ideas.D. A practice t cme up with slutins.
D
I remember nce asking the famus painter Elizabeth Murray what she thught f her early wrks. She tld me that a few didn’t quite meet her wn mark fr what she wanted them t be. One f the wrks, in fact, s didn’t meet her mark, that she had set it ut in the rubbish in her studi, and her neighbr had taken it because she saw its value. At that mment, my view f success and creativity changed. I realized that success is a mment, but what we are always celebrating is creativity and mastery.
I started t understand this when I watched an archer. She first hit a seven ring, and then a nine, and then tw tens, and then the next arrw didn’t even hit the target. And I saw that gave her mre tenacity (韧性), and she went after it again and again. Fr three hurs this went n. S, success is hitting that ten ring, but mastery is knwing that it means nthing if yu can’t d it again and again. Mastery is nt just the same as excellence, thugh. It’s nt the same as success, which I see as an event, a mment in time, and a title the wrld awards yu. Mastery is nt a cmmitment (投入) t a gal but t a cntinuus search. What gets us t push frward mre is t value a near win.
Part f the reasn that the near win is inbuilt t mastery is because the greater ur prficiency (精通), the mre clearly we might see that we dn’t knw all that we thught we did. It’s called the “Dunning-Kruger effect”. The Paris Review gt it ut f James Baldwin when they asked him, “What d yu think increases with knwledge?” and he said, “Yu learn hw little yu knw.”
Success mtivates us, but a near win can push us in an nging quest (探索). One f the mst vivid examples f this cmes when we lk at the difference between Olympic silver medalists and brnze medalists after a cmpetitin. Thmas Gilvich and his team frm Crnell studied this difference and fund that the frustratin silver medalists feel cmpared t brnze medalists, wh are typically a bit happier t have just nt received furth place and nt medaled at all, gives silver medalists a fcus n fllw-up cmpetitin.
The reasn the near win driving us frward is because it changes ur view f the landscape and puts ur gals, which we tend t put at a distance, clser t where we stand. And this is what a near win des. It gets us t fcus n what, right nw, we plan t d t address that muntain in ur sights.
We becme, and cntinue t be, successful, strng and healthy nt when we’ve dne it all, but when we still have mre t d. We build ut f the unfinished idea, even if that idea is ur frmer self. This is the dynamic f mastery. Cming clse t what yu thught yu wanted can help yu achieve mre than yu ever dreamed yu culd. Cmpletin is a gal, but we hpe it is never the end.
30. Why des the writer use the example in Paragraph 1?
A. T intrduce a change in the pinin.B. T prve the value f creativity in art.
C. T shw the result f a wrng judgement.D. T stress the imprtance f a gd neighbr.
31. What d yu knw abut success and mastery frm the passage?
A. Mst successes are driven by Dunning-Kruger effect.
B. Making every effrt t win is what mastery underlines.
C. Success means ging after excellence ver and ver again.
D. Knwing hw little we knw sets us n the path t mastery.
32 Which f the fllwing mst prbably shws the effect f a near win?
A. A writer penned a nvel and became famus vernight.
B. A bxer, wh lst in a clse match, trained harder than befre.
C. A scientist changed the research area after careful planning.
D. A teacher, wh kept encuraging students, received an hnr.
33. What is the writer’s main purpse in writing this passage?
A. T explain the true meaning f mastery.B. T inspire peple t cntinue reaching higher.
C. T present the benefits f having the right gal.D. T cmpare different ways t deal with a near win.

Time capsules
A time capsule is a cntainer (容器) that hlds recrds r bjects t shw tday’s culture. Making a family time capsule can be a wnderful chance t present everyne’s interests, recrd hpes fr the future, and send yur future selves an exciting treasure t see what yu have saved! Here’s everything yu need t knw t make a time capsule fr yur kids.
The first step is t decide when yu’re ging t pen it. This gal date will infrm many parts f the prcess including what yu put in and where yu hide it. Fr little kids, a date t far in the future wn’t sund fun, s I suggest a year r tw as a starting pint. Older kids may want t pen it when they graduate frm high schl r achieve ther imprtant gals.
Once yu’ve chsen a date, it’s time t start cllecting items (物品)! Find r make items symblizing imprtant parts f their lives. If yur daughter is the family Sudku (数独) champin, have her include a partially cmpleted puzzle t see if her future self can slve the rest! The mst imprtant part f this step is that everyne chses items with persnal meanings. When yu pen the time capsule in the future, the memries will cme flding back, and everyne will have fun recalling each bject’s imprtance.
A time capsule isn’t cmplete withut a few items that shw the “present times”. A newspaper page with a funny stry frm this week is an excellent additin. A letter t yur future self is an ften verlked (忽略) but memrable part f a time capsule.
Once yu’ve cllected everything fr the time capsule, it’s time t decide where yu’ll hide it. If yu plan t hide it indrs, yu’ll need t chse a place that isn’t easily fund—yu dn’t want t tempt (诱惑) thse small hands! Fr an utdr place, chse smewhere that wn’t get cvered by large trees r walls in the cming years.
Yu can chse yur best cntainer accrding t its hiding place and the number f chsen items. Using a she bx r ther cardbard material is an easy chice fr an inside lcatin. If yu want t hide it utdrs, stainless steel (不锈钢) is an excellent chice.
The last step is t hide the time capsule! Whether yu’re hiding it utside r placing it n a shelf in the garage, make sure t nte where it’s hidden. Future-yu will be thankful fr the clues!
Making a time capsule is a great way t encurage yur kids t be creative, s grab everyne and get started tday!
