Chickadees (山雀)are belved backyard birds in Nrth America. Black-capped Chickadees and Carlina Chickadees are especially tugh t tell apart, with the same black cap and chin, white cheeks, and gray-buff bdies, alng with the same lve f seed-filled bird feeders and similar cheeky “chick-a-dee-dee!” calls. Usually the easiest way t tell which f these tw chickadees yu’re lking at is t cnsult a map.
Carlina Chickadees live in the eastern and sutheastern U. S., whereas Black-capped Chickadees inhabit mst f the rest f Nrth America. Yet alng the extensive, meandering line where the tw species verlap, things can get unclear. In 2007 Rbert Curry, an rnithlgist and behaviral eclgist published a paper shwing that the hybrid zne had been creeping nrthward ver mre than a decade. By that time Curry had accumulated years’ wrth f chickadee bld samples frm his field sites, and he had access t tissue samples cllected previusly by ther researchers as well. He and his cllabratrs used genetic analysis t verify the cmpsitin f the chickadee ppulatin at each site and lked at hw that cmpsitin had shifted ver time. The researchers’ findings prvided cnfirmatin f what bird-watchers had already bserved: in a decade and a half the nrthern edge f the hybrid zne had mved abut 20 kilmeters nrth. But why?
Accrding t the data cllected frm eBird in the fllwing years, the nrthern limit f Carlina Chickadees’ range is rughly the pint n the map where the average minimum winter temperature hits minus seven degrees Celsius— and that the rate f their nrthward expansin in Pennsylvania has been cnsistent with warming winters. Climate change is really nly half f the stry behind the mvement f the hybrid zne. Meanwhile, there was a strng link between the presence f hybrids and the degree t which habitat in an area had been altered by humans. “I think what we’ve dne in these disturbed areas is we’ve planted trees that favr Black-capped Chickadees,” says, “which has increased their ppulatins and then increased the frequency f hybridizatin between the tw species in an artificial way.”
“S what will happen? We dn’t knw yet,” Curry says. “But it will be interesting t see.”
32. What is the easiest way t tell Black-capped Chickadees frm Carlina Chickadees?
A. Recrding their calls. B. Observing their shapes.
C. Cmparing their lks. D. Studying their habitats.
33. What can we learn abut the study in paragraph 3?
A. Researchers fcused n Chickadees’ behaviur.
B. The hybrid zne had a tendency t migrate nrth.
C. Curry gathered all the samples frm his field sites.
D. The findings differed frm thse f bird- watchers.
34. What led t hybrid zne expanding nrth?
A. The availability f bird feeders.
B. The increased human ppulatin.
C. The influence f glbal warming.
D. The intrductin f new bird species.
35. Which f the fllwing is the best title fr the text?

D. Peaceful Cexistence: Chickadees Thriving Tgether Acrss Species Lines
