A team f scientists at NTU Singapre has develped grain-sized sft rbts that can be cntrlled using magnetic fields(磁场)fr targeted drug delivery, paving the way t pssible imprved treatment in future. The study is believed t be the first reprted instance f tiny rbts that can transprt up t fur different drugs and release them in reprgrammable rders and dses(剂量).
“Cmpared t earlier small-scale rbts which can nly carry up t three types f drugs and cannt be prgrammed fr release in rder, the newly-develped tiny rbts ffer precisin(精确)functins that have the ptential t significantly imprve the result f treatment while minimising side effects,” said the research team.

Building n their earlier wrk, lead investigatr, Assistant Prfessr Lum Gu Zhan frm the Schl f Mechanical and Aerspace Engineering(MAE), said the idea was frm the 1960s film “Fantastic Vyage”, in which a repairman became as small as a cell t repair damage in an injured scientist’s brain.
Unlike existing tiny rbts that cannt precisely cntrl their directins, the newly develped sft rbt can exactly and quickly rll and mve t the place having prblems. It ffers great ptential fr navigating cmplex, unstructured envirnments inside the human bdy.
In lab experiments, the rbt cmpleted tasks in water mimicking the human bdy’s cnditins. The rbt was first placed n a surface divided int fur sectins, and it succeeded in mving t each sectin at speeds f between 0.30mm and 16.5mm per secnd and releasing a different drug in each sectin, prving its ability t carry varius drugs and t be prgrammable fr their release in a cntrlled manner. In a thicker liquid, it als perfrmed well. With minimal drug leakage after eight hurs, it’s gd fr precise drug delivery.
The NTU research team is nw lking t make their rbts even smaller s that they culd eventually be used t prvide pineering treatments fr cancer treatments. Befre these tiny rbts are used fr such medical treatments, the NTU researchers aim t further evaluate their perfrmance with rgan-n-chip devices and animal mdels.

B. T explain the structure f cells.

B. They can carry mre drug dses.
C. They can be prgrammed autmatically.
D. They make the treatment mre effective.
34. What des the underlined wrd “mimicking” mean in paragraph 6?
