Scial media is ne place where visual and scial signals meet. Evidence shws if friends in yur scial netwrk pst regularly abut particular types f fd, it culd lead yu t cpy them, fr better r fr wrse. And research indicates that scial media might be changing ur relatinship with fd, making us think differently abut what we eat. “If all yur friends n scial media are psting pictures f themselves cnsuming fast fd, it’s ging t set a nrm that eating fast fd is what peple d,” says Higgs.
Research suggests we’re mre likely t be attracted by phts f fast fd, especially sme rich in saturated fat(饱和脂肪), which can make us feel gd, says Ethan Pancer, a prfessr in Canada. Humans are bilgically prepared t seek ut high-calrie fd — an ability that helped ur ancestrs survive when they searched fr fd.
“Healthier fds are ften seen as bring in cmparisn, and prcessed fd is cnsidered’ cl’,” a researcher frm France, Tina Tessitre, adds that, “In advertising, yu see unhealthy fd in scial settings—peple having a barbeque with friends, fr example, while healthy fd usually fcuses mre n the nutritinal value. Findings als suggest that parents dn’t have t be hme all the time t be present in their children’s lives, but it helps t be hme at certain times. And the best parental presence fr a teenager may smetimes be like a ptted(盆栽的)plant. Many parents f teenagers have knwn this t be true and find ways t be present withut trying t start a cnversatin. One friend f mine quietly des husewrk each evening in the sitting rm where her teenagers watch TV. They enjy ne anther’s cmpany(陪伴)withut the need t talk.
In fact, many years f research suggest that children use their parents as a safe base frm which t explre the wrld. Studies tell us that yung children quietly fllw their parents’ mvements frm rm t rm, even while carrying n with their wn activities. Perhaps ur teens, like babies, feel mst at ease when their parents are still arund. They dn’t want t stay away frm parents wh allw them freedm.
A new schl year is at hand, s as parents we culd ffer ur teenagers a “ptted flwer” as a gift, whse quiet and steady(稳定的)presence will give them a great day.
