When my sn was a little by, he liked t run in ur driveway until he fell. He wuld then tum t me t see if I was hurt. When my face shwed srrw, he wuld burst ut crying. It I remained calm, he wuld break himself ff and get back t running. Learning that I culd s pwerfully influence his state f mind was a revelatin (启示). This was hw the human being was cunting n me t make sense f the wrld - nt just hw t tie his shes r recite the ABCs, but hw t feel.
I've spent the past 30 years wrking in schls, and I've watched thusands f parents engage with their children and with their teachers. T ften, I watch parents verfunctining - taking away their kids' cnfidence that cmes frm struggling and persevering, and exhausting themselves in the prcess. We're bilgically wired t prevent ur children's suffering. A parent's first respnse is ften t remve the bstacle (障碍) frm their child's path. This urge has led t pp - culture beliefs arund parenting styles, including the "Helicpter Parent," wh flies in t rescue a child in crisis, and the "Snwplw Parent," wh flattens any bstacle in their child's way.
In the 1960s, the psychlgist, Diana Baumrind described three parenting styles, which researchers eventually expanded t fur: authritarian, permissive, uninvlved, and authritative. Authritarian parents make all decisins fr their children with little rm fr negtiatin. Permissive parents avid cnflict by setting few bundaries. Uninvlved parents are disinterested, prviding minimal supprt. Authritative parents allw fr sme flexibility, cmbining clear expectatins with the willingness t listen. Authritative parenting can be referred t as "Lighthuse Parenting". Like a lighthuse that helps sailrs avid crashing int rcks, "Lighthuse Parents" prvide firm bundaries and emtinal supprt while allwing their children the freedm t learn with their wn challenges. They demnstrate that they trust their children t handle difficult situatins independently.
All parents shw up as authritarian, permissive, uninvlved, r authritative at different times, depending n the situatin. But remembering t put parenting in perspective, fcusing n lng - term utcmes ver shrt - term saves, can reduce sme f the stress f parenting while als prducing better utcmes fr children.
24.Why des the authr mentin his sn's fall in paragraph 1?
A. T emphasize the pain children suffer in their grwth.
B. T highlight the imprtance f parents' emtinal stability.
C. T shw the influence parents' respnses have n children.
D. T illustrate children's ability t handle prblems independently.

A. Parents' anxiety and exhaustin.
B. Children's struggling and persevering.
C. Children's disappintment with their parents.
D. Parents' lack f cnfidence in slving prblems.
26.What d "Lighthuse Parents" tend t d in their parenting?
A. Remve bstacles frm their children's paths.
B. Prvide their children with supprt and trust.
C. Avid participating in their children's matters.
D. Make decisins fr their children withut negtiatin.
27Which f the fllwing may the authr agree with?
A. Parents shuld learn t let g.

D. Every parenting style is a duble - edged swrd.

Cmmn huse cats pssess the ability t assciate wrds with images withut hints r rewards, a new research has revealed. This discvery, published in Scientific Reprts, thrws new light n cats' cgnitive (认知的) abilities and their ptential fr understanding human language.
"Human babies rapidly learn randm assciatins between wrds and bjects at a yung age," the authrs wrte. "Hw did this ability t understand language evlve? It is nt clear what selectin pressures are related t language cmprehensin ability, thugh sme studies have shwn that this wrd - bject - assciatin ability is nt cnfined t humans but is present als in ther species."

In the experiment, cats were shwn shrt vides paired with meaningless wrds. These vides were played again and again until the cats lked away. After a break, the same vides were shwn, but with the spken wrds cmpletely changed. Researchers carefully bserved the cats' reactins, fcusing n gaze duratin (注视持续时间) and pupil dilatin (瞳孔放大).
The results were striking: cats demnstrated lnger gaze duratins and pupil dilatin when the wrd - image pairings were switched, indicating cnfusin and a search fr explanatin. This behavir suggests that the cats had frmed assciatins between the spken wrds and the images they saw, even withut any rewards r training.
“It is ntewrthy that cats made the picture - wrd assciatin after nly brief expsure,” the authrs said. “Mst cats gt used t the stimulus pairing after fur trials, which means that they received nly nine secnd expsures in tw trials fr each picture - wrd pair. By cmparisn, trials invlving human babies used at least fur 20 - secnd trials fr a picture - wrd pair.”
But the study’s authrs nted that it’s nt clear why cats are able t frm these assciatins s quickly and suggest mre wrk is needed t examine the questin frm bth evlutinary and develpments perspectives.
32.What did the research find?
A. The cgnitive evlutin f cats.
B. The methds f training cats.
C. Cats’ picture - wrd assciative ability.
D. Cats’ special ways f cmmunicatin.
33.What des the underlined wrd “cnstrained” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Limited.
B. Attached.
C. Knwn.
D. Intrduced.
34.What caused the cats’ changes in behavir?
A. Playing different vides.
B. Switching the wrd - vide pairings.
C. Cpying human baby language.
D. Changing the spken wrds in the vide.
35.What can we infer frm the authr’s wrds in paragraph 5?
A. Cats can cncentrate lnger than babies.
B. Cats learn assciatins faster than babies.
C. Human babies have superir cgnitive abilities.
D. Human babies have mre advanced language skills.
