Review：wrd frmatin讲解构词法，让学生了解词汇的三种构成方式：合成词、派生词和词的转化。通过掌握构词法，让学生掌握构词规律，有助于扩大词汇面，扫除阅读障碍。
American and British English介绍了美式英语和英式英语中词汇的不同表达，旨在拓宽学生视野，了解两种英语中同义不同词的现象，加深对英语的了解，同时，让学生搜寻总结类似的美式英语和英式英语词汇，提升学习的积极性。
Unfamiliar English expressins部分告诉学生每年都有很多新的词汇加入到英语词典中，这些新词是顺应时代发展需要，成为人们生活中常用语。这些新融入的词汇新颖、有趣，既简单易懂，又不失生动活泼，学生们正处于渴望探求新知的年龄段，因此学起来兴致盎然。
课时目标：
1.掌握并记忆本课时的重点词汇type, unfamiliar, cntact, rganizatin, likely, subway, gas, petrl, apartment, flat, cntext, cme acrss, refer…t as…, cmmunicate with以及 rather的用法，能在真实语境中灵活运用。
2.掌握三种基本的构词法，并列举实例；通过构词法的学习，掌握构词规律，扩大词汇量，降低阅读难度。
3.了解更多构词法、两种英语中词汇的不同以及现代英语中的新增词汇，扩大学生的视野，提高认知水平，从而激发学生热爱英语、探索语言的热情。
4.通过了解美式英语和英式英语中词汇的不同以及现代英语中的新词汇，让学生了解更多英语语言的文化背景和时代感，激发进一步学习、探索英语的兴趣。
重点难点：

学习构词法，根据三种基本的构词法在具体语境中推断出符合构词法的词汇的含义以及词性，从而扩大词汇量，有助于提高学生的阅读理解水平。
难点：
通过上述学习活动，理解常见的美式英语和英式英语中不同的词汇和新增词汇。
教学准备：
教师准备：
准备好该部分内容的PPT和音频材料；准备好美式英语和英式英语中不同的词汇，做成表格形式；准备好些新增词汇、短语以及缩略形式，留出空白，给学生思考空间。
学生准备：
1.课前查找基本的构词法，并找出一些相应的词汇。
2.上网查询美式英语和英式英语中不同的词汇，上课时和同学们一起分享。
3.预习课本P19的内容，思考该部分新词汇的含义。
教学过程：
Step I Review: wrd frmatin
1. D Activity 1 n Page 17 f the textbk.
2. Give enugh examples f the ways f wrd frmatin.
（1）词的转化；
（2）派生词；
（3）合成词。
Guide students t sum up the ways f wrd frmatin.
Then ask students t give examples.
3. Finish Activity 2 n Page 17.
First ask students t d the activity individually and then check answers tgether.
4. D Activity 3 n Page 17.
Share their examples with their partners and ask sme grups t give a reprt t the class.
Chse the best grup t praise in class.
Step II American and British English
1. Lk at the pictures n Page 18. cmpare the grups f wrds and tell which are American English and which are British English.
2. Ask students t fill in the blanks n Page 18. Check answers tgether.
3. Ask students t give mre examples f different wrds in the tw kinds f English. The activity can be rganized in the frm f cmpetitin t aruse the interest f the students.
Step III Unfamiliar English expressins
1. Read “Did yu knw?” and find the new wrds added int the dictinary.
2. Listen t three cnversatins and match them t the pictures.
3. Listen t the cnversatins again and cmplete the table n Page 19.
4. Ask students t explain the meanings f the wrds in the tape in their wn language.
【设计意图】听力练习设置了两个相应的练习题，第一次听录音，获取文章关键信息，根据听到的主要内容与图片匹配起来。第二次听录音，要求在听的同时记录，记录原词、含义以及来历。听完录音后，先处理前两个练习题，然后要求学生根据录音内容，讨论说话者如何询问并解释单词的意思，在语言输入的基础上进行语言输出。这符合学生的认知规律和英语教学的规范。
