What wuld be the best way tday t prtest against a war? In 1937, Spanish artist Pabl Picass expressed his anger at war thrugh his pwerful painting Guernica, which remains a significant anti-war symbl(象征).
Much f the painting’s pwer cmes frm its size, abut 3.49 meters tall and 7.76 meters wide. It feels like it wraps arund yu, immersing(沉浸) yu in its larger-than-life figures and actin. And althugh the size and multiple figures refer t the lng traditin f Eurpean histry paintings, this painting is different because it challenges rather than accepts the idea f war as heric.
Guernica is based n the events f April 27, 1937, when Adlf Hitler’s German air frce bmbed Picass’s hmetwn Guernica in nrthern Spain, a city f n strategic military value, leaving a third f the ppulatin wunded r killed. When news f the bmbing reached Paris, Picass was hrrified by the reprts f damage and death. After repeated attempts, the painting was dne in less than a mnth and then delivered t the Paris Wrld’ s Fair, where it shcked the wrld int facing up t the suffering f the Spanish peple.
On first glance, Guernica’s cmpsitin appears cnfusing, thrwing the viewer in the midst f battle. The space is ambiguus(模糊的) with the changing perspectives and verlapping(重叠) images frm Picass’s Cubist(立派的) style, making it hard t distinguish their bundaries. Hwever, there is in fact a visual rder with figures arranged in three vertical(垂直的) grups mving left t right and central figures placed within a large triangle f light.
There has been almst endless debate abut the meaning f the images in Guernica. When questined abut its pssible symblism, Picass said, “It isn’t up t the painter t define the symbls. Otherwise, it wuld be better if he wrte them ut in wrds. The public wh lk at the picture must interpret the symbls as they understand them.” In the end, the painting des nt appear t have nly ne single meaning. Perhaps it is that very ambiguity, r the fact that cruel wars cntinue t be fught, that keeps Guernica as timeless and universally relatable tday as it was in 1937.
    24. In what aspect is Guernica different frm paintings f its time?
    A. Figures in the painting.B. Size f the painting.
    C. Its histrical backgrund.D. Its attitude t the war.

    A. Respnse f visitrs at the Fair.B. Guernica’s strategic military value.
    C. Outbreak f the war in 1937.D. Reprts f the suffering in his hmetwn.
    26. What des Paragraph 4 mainly talk abut the painting?

    ——Stevie Van Zandt
The legendary guitarist Stevie Van Zandt has called n England’s schls t use music t attract yung peple. He funded TeachRck, an nline prgramme that uses music t help students access the curriculum(课程).
Van Zandt launched TeachRck as a way f keeping arts in the DNA f the public educatin system f the US after the intrductin f the N Child Left Behind Act f 2001, with its stress n annual testing, academic prgress and reprt cards. Nw it is being adpted in schls in England in the Beckmead, which prvides educatin fr children and yung peple with cmplex needs. Van Zandt was visiting t see his prgramme in actin.
Many f the students at Beckmead are amng the mst disadvantaged in the cuntry. Sme have already been in yuth ffender institutins(少管所). While prviding them with excellent educatin and care, it is als critical that we attract them t attend. TeachRck has prved hugely successful. Additinally, research has shwn that music plays a key rle in supprting brain develpment, language, mtr skills, scial cperatin skills and emtinal intelligence.
Van Zandt watched interestedly as 17-year-ld Kerniel perfrmed a sng he had written, and applauded enthusiastically after a perfrmance by a grup f students playing guitars given by a charity. Sme f them had nt held a guitar until a few weeks ag. “It’s amazing!” said Van Zandt, “A lt f kids are just nt cmfrtable with the accuracy f basic science r maths. They dn’t see the reasn fr it. They dn’t understand it.” Van Zandt believes in “meeting children n their wn turf”, rather than cnducting a ne-size-fits-all curriculum. Kids cme t schl with gifts intact(完好的): imaginatin, curisity, instinct, taste, pinins—and the traditinal educatin is t have them leave thse things utside the classrm.

I want t be successful. That persn is successful. S that persn can teach me hw t be successful. This thery helps explain the springing up f pdcasts, bks and speeches devted t the secrets f high perfrmance. It is ne reasn why executive-leadership curses draw n case studies frm well beynd business: plitics, the army and even the Rman Empire. And it has been much apparent befre and during the Olympics, which end in Paris n August 11th.
Executives(主管) attend events in which Olympians describe what makes them successful. What can CEOs learn frm the wrld’s best athletes? Actually, there are threads that cnnect sprting success and business success. Getting t the games requires 100% cmmitment and hard wrk. Sprting excellence rests n the effrts f multiple peple, nt just a single individual. The peple n the platfrm in Paris are cmpetitive and resilient(适应力强). It is true that all these things are helpful in the wrkplace.
If sme f the similarities between sprts and the wrkplace are cliché(老生常谈), many f the differences are t big t be helpful. Sprting events have clear standards fr winning r lsing; mst jbs lack this. A fur-year Olympic cycle building t a match that may last nly secnds has few similar examples in business.
The athletes wh win medals at the games are blessed nt just with determinatin but als natural gifts. The jb f managers is partly t discver such superstars, but their real task is getting the best ut f a wrkfrce whse talents will vary and whse jbs will nt depend as heavily n genetics(遗传). “As sn as I saw that kid lg n, I knew he was special.” are wrds yu d nt ften hear.
Whether similarities r differences, these are nt really why peple listen t the pdcasts r turn up at the events. They want a simple recipe fr success. And they want t hear what it is like t run faster r jump higher than anyne else. They want t hear stries that can have n practical value back in the ffice. If they can pretend it’s gd fr their career, s much the better.
    32. Why des the authr mentin the thery in Paragraph 1?
    A. T prve a pint.B. T lead in the tpic.
    C. T present a fact.D. T explain a cncept.
    33. Why d CEOs turn t Olympians?
    A. T seek business partners.B. T get the secrets t success.
    C. T prve the truth f a thery.D. T expand their scial circle.
    34. What is the authr’s attitude t learning frm Olympians?
    A. Unclear.B. Favrable.C. Dubtful.D. Uncncerned.
    35. Which f the fllwing is a suitable title fr the text?
    A. What can Olympians teach CEOs?
    B. Hw d CEOs differ frm Olympians?
    C. What is the recipe fr business success?
    D. Why are Olympians mre successful than CEOs?
