    It is a small step fr a plant, and a giant leap fr plant kind. A spruting (发芽) cttn seed n China’s Chang’e-4 lunar lander is the first plant ever t grw in anther wrld, indicating a new era fr life in space.
    Seeds, including cttn, arabidpsis (拟南芥), ilseed rape (油菜) and ptat were carried t the Mn as a part f bilgical experiment, alng with fruit fly eggs and sme yeasts (酵母).
    Pictures sent back by the prbe shw the cttn seeds spruting n January 7, 2019, a few days after Chang’e-4 landed n the far side f the Mn.
    The rganisms (生物) are in a sealed can, prtected frm the extreme temperatures and radiatin n the surface. “Understanding hw t grw plants in space will help lay the fundatin fr human settlement n the Mn,” a scientist leading the experiment tld the Suth China Mrning Pst.
    The six rganisms are intended t frm a mini-ecsystem, with the plants making xygen and fd t sustain the fruit flies. Yeasts culd prcess the flies’ waste and dead plants t prvide anther fd surce.

    My cmpany, OneWeb, is fcusing n what I believe is ne f the wrld’s mst imprtant issues: the need fr equal access t the Internet. The Internet has becme ur ecnmic lifebld. And yet, nearly half f the wrld’s ppulatin desn’t have Internet access. Space is playing a key rle in bridging this digital divide. OneWeb is launching 1,980 satellites t help bring Internet access t peple everywhere, and ur first prductin satellites are already flying in space and have shwn very high dwnlad speeds.
