After I was brn, my mther hid me fr tw years in a children’s hme. When she finally brught me hme, she presented me t her strict family as an adpted girl. I imagine that she tried t save face and avid judgment as well as rejectin. Being left in a place withut a mther during thse frmative years f my life came at a great persnal cst. Scientists have develped a trailblazing 3D-printed device that culd speed up patient access t new medicines withut the need fr animal testing. Thusands f animals are used in the early stages f develping medicines wrldwide every year, yet many drugs tested n animals d nt end up shwing any clinical benefit.
Nw researchers at the University f Edinburgh have designed a “bdy n-chip” that perfectly cpy hw a medicine flws thrugh a patient’s bdy. The plastic device means scientists can test drugs t see hw different rgans react withut the need fr live animal testing. The device is the first f its kind in the wrld. Made using a 3D printer, the chip’s five cmpartments(隔层) lk like the human heart, lungs, kidneys, liver and brain. They are cnnected by channels that resemble the human circulatry system, thrugh which new drugs can be pumped(灌输).
The plastic device uses PET scanning t prduce detailed 3D images shwing what is ging n inside the tiny rgans. “The PET imagery is what allws us t ensure the flw f new drugs being tested is even,” said Liam Carr, the inventr f the device.
PET scanning invlves injecting tiny amunts f radiactive cmpunds int the chip t transmit signals t an extremely sensitive camera, allwing scientists t better assess the effect f new drugs.

The study, by Srush Vsughi and assciate prfessr Deb Ry, bth f the MIT Media Lab, and MIT Slan prfessr Sinan Aral, is the largest-ever lngitudinal(纵向的) study f the spread f false news nline.
