Facial expressins are an imprtant part f human cmmunicatin that allw us t cnvey ur emtins. Scientists have fund similar signals f emtin in ther mammals such as dgs, pigs and mice. Althugh birds can prduce facial expressins by mving their head feathers and flushing (发红) their skin, it is unclear whether they express emtins in this way.
T investigate, researchers frm INRAE and CNRS, France, filmed 18 female dmestic chickens frm tw breeds, as they perfrmed rutine behavirs n a French farm. They als filmed the birds while being captured and held by a human, and while being rewarded with an appealing fd.
The researchers analyzed the psitin f their facial feathers and the clr f the expsed skin n their faces in seven cntexts that differed in their emtinal valence (效价) and level f excitement. Fr example, birds preen their feathers when they are relaxed and cntent, whereas receiving a rewarding fd generally causes excitement and happiness, and being captured is an exciting but fearful experience.
The results suggested that the psitin f the head feathers and the clr f the skin varied between cntexts. Fluffing (抖松) head feathers were mainly assciated with a state f cntentment, whereas flushing indicated that the birds were psitively excited r fearful.
The study is the first t investigate facial displays f emtin in chickens, and suggests that dmestic hens use facial expressins t shw their emtins, much like humans and ther mammals d. These findings ffer a windw int the emtinal experiences f dmestic birds, which culd be used t imprve the welfare f farmed pultry (家禽), the researchers say.
The skin flushing n the face f the dmestic birds is a windw int their emtins. The intensity f the flushing varies within a few secnds depending n the emtinal situatins they experience, the researchers add.

Depressin is the leading cause f disability wrldwide and is assciated with disruptins t several brain and psychlgical prcesses, including impaired learning and memry. Physical activity, especially aerbic (有氧的) exercise, has been fund t reduce depressive symptms, but until nw the prcesses behind this have been prly understd.
In a new review article published in Translatinal Psychiatry, researchers prpse a nvel assumptin t understand the antidepressant effects f exercise. They believe that the prcess may hinge n mtivatin, which is very imprtant fr relieving a number f symptms f depressin, such as anhednia (a lack f interest r jy in life's experiences), lw energy and “brain fg”.
The team summarised research papers explring the mechanisms (机制) f depressin in bth humans and animals and cncluded that depressin, especially anhednia, is assciated with increased inflammatin (炎症) caused by the bdy's immune respnse. Imprtantly, inflammatin is als linked t disrupting dpamine transmissin. These bilgical changes may represent key prcesses leading t changes in mtivatin, and in particular a lwer willingness t make physical r mental effrt.
Meanwhile, exercise reduces inflammatin, bsts dpamine functin, and enhances mtivatin. The researchers believe that this culd be an imprtant reasn as t why exercise has an antidepressant effect. The team hpe that this understanding f hw exercise reduces symptms f depressin will help t infrm the develpment f new treatment strategies— such as persnalised exercise prgrammes.
Dr Emily Hird (UCL Institute f Cgnitive Neurscience) said, “Understanding the mechanisms behind the antidepressant effects f physical activity in depressin culd als infrm ur understanding f the mechanisms causing depressin and the develpment f nvel interventin strategies, in particular, persnalised interventin, and scial prescribing.”
“It wuld be imprtant t investigate any ptential barrier t exercise,” Dr Hird added. “Addressing barriers t exercise— particularly in peple with depressin— is crucial, as regular physical activity may be able t relieve symptms, enhance md and empwer individuals n their path t recvery. As part f this, finding strategies t encurage exercise is key.”
12.What is the impact f depressin wrldwide?
A.It is the mst widespread illness.B.It is the leading cause f death.

故填a。
故填which。
appear t d“好像做……,似乎做……”

be based n/ upn“基于……,以……
