课时目标：
1.认知并灵活运用本课时的重点单词debt、pace、 infrm、rarely、rejectin、nevertheless、persevere、criticism、classic、endurance、guarantee、delighted以及短语 stick t、take fr example、translate int等。
2.通过速度、精读等方式，引导学生由浅入深，逐层推进，加深对文章的理解，并掌握不同的阅读技巧和方法。通过对所设置题目的解答，学生学会根据关键词提取重要信息，理清文章线索，并学会深层次分析问题，提高归纳概括、推理判断的能力。
3.通过阅读文章，使学生了解仅靠天赋不足以获得成功，坚持不懈才是成功的关键。

1.在网上搜索美国诗人 Edgar Albert Guest（埃德加·阿尔贝特·格斯特）的名篇《不要放弃》，并了解诗歌的特点以及所要传达的信息。
2.上网搜索作家（乔安妮·凯瑟琳·罗琳）、（杰罗姆·大卫·塞林格）以及 Brntë sisters（勃朗特三姐妹）的生活背景、创作之路以及坚持梦想所付出的努力和成就。
3.预习 Starting ut和 Understanding ideas两部分的内容，通过查字典等方式提前解决词汇问题。
教学过程：
Step I Starting ut
1. Play the vide fr students t watch, then ask them t answer the fllwing questins：

2. Play the tape fr students t listen and then ask them t answer the fllwing questins：
·What is the key message f the pem?
·Which f life’s difficulties are mentined in the pem?
What is yur understanding f the line “Success is failure turned inside ut”?

3. Ask students t read the pem and learn it further.
