The highlights f every Wrld Cup are the impssible gals, especially the arc (弧线) ball gals. It’s breathtaking t watch. Every spin (旋转) f the ball mves air acrss the surface, pushing it int a bend.
When a sccer ball flies, the air frms a layer arund the surface f the ball. As the balls pins, it changes the directin f the air t ne side, says Jhn Bush, an applied mathematician at MIT. This air pushes the ball in the ppsite directin. The player starts with a strike n the utside f his right ft, which hits the left side f the ball, starting a clckwise spin. It thrws the air ff t the left, and the frce created by the air leaving the ball pushes it t the right, explains Bush. Thus, a ball spinning t the right (that’s clckwise) will als are twards the right. This frce is called the Magnus Effect.
It helps the galkeepers, because they see unifrm curvature (曲度) when players are taking bending shts at them. If they can pick up the spin right, it’s ging t be the same amunt f curvature, and they knw where t put their hands. This is partly why players are much mre likely t take bending shts during free kicks when galkeepers can’t see their kicks quite as well because f the wall f defenders. If a ball isn’t spinning, it des smething called knuckling, where the air turns the ball t ne side in randm directins, causing it t bunce in the air unpredictably. “It’s usually achieved when a player manages a sharp, fast tuch f the ball, typically right n the air valve where the ball is mst firm.” says Bush. Its lack f spin kept the galkeeper frm being able t predict where it was ging until it was t late. All the galkeepers tremble befre the kicker that can sht this kind f sccer ball.
    32. What is the Magnus Effect accrding t the text?
    A. The frce applied t a spinning ball.
    B. The thery prpsed by Jhn Bush. .
    C. The directin ppsite t a player’s strike.
    D. The gal scred with a bending ball.
    33. Why d sccer players prefer t take bending shts during free kicks?
    A. Because they can change the ball’s curvature.
    B. Because they can take bending shts mre easily.
    C. Because they can get a cver frm the wall f defenders.
    D. Because they can help their team’s galkeeper.
    34. Which sht might be the mst predictable fr galkeepers?
    A. A free-kick sht.
    B. A fast sht withut spinning.
    C. A sht with a unique curvature.
    D. A bending sht withut defensive blcking.
    35. What’s the best title f the text?
