W: Well, I’ve always been interested in brightly-clred light shws, like the nes yu see at rck cncerts. I’ve always been keen n firewrks displays t. But I think a play I went t ages ag was the riginal inspiratin — the memry f the amazing lighting they used has stayed with me.
M: S what d theatre lighting technicians d, exactly?
W: Well, ur theatre directr nce said many peple think we just turn the lights n and ff at the beginning and end f a perfrmance. In fact, lighting technicians really help the audience t get what’s happening n the stage during a play.
M: Yu started getting invlved with stage lighting at schl, didn’t yu?
W: I did. Fr the first play I helped with, I drew up a really detailed plan fr the play lighting. My teacher was impressed — but then plitely pinted ut the play was actually set during the day, s n darkness was required!
