Althugh clr is nt a decisive factr, it has a clear influence n fd recgnitin. Withut clr, peple unsurprisingly made mre mistakes and it’s easy t mistake different dishes as the same fd. Hwever, this increase in errr rates des nt change the accuracy (准确) f fd recgnitin amng different peple. Thse with a higher visual (视觉的) ability always did better.
Then the researchers raised a new questin: Wuld peple with clr blindness be less fd nephbic (挑食的) than thse with nrmal clr cgnitin? They gathered participants with clr blindness and required them t fill in a questinnaire (问卷) that measures hw resistant (抵制的) they are t new fds. The result suggested that clrblind peple are indeed less likely t be fd nephbic than nn-clrblind peple, because the limited clrs that clrblind peple can see reduce the signals that may raise freshness. safety r anxiety abut new fds.

My initial explratin f the wrld f cmic bks happened thrugh the cmic strips in newspapers. It began with a fndness fr Garfield and his adventures, and led t the discvery f a range f cmic bks like Champak, Tintin, and Archie. They enabled me t enjy myself in a wrld withut iPads and the Internet ― just like s many f my friends wh were fnd f reading.
While my access t cmics as a child was limited t what was printed in the newspaper, this changed nce I grew lder and started visiting bkstres t buy the bks that I wanted t read. Having grwn up n a diet f image-heavy bks, I fund the idea f reading text-nly nvels quite frmidable. As I searched fr bks that lay smewhere in between, I came acrss a cpy f Bhimayana ― a graphic nvel. It felt familiar due t its cmic-like theme and design. Plus, understanding cmplex narratives thrugh pictures was relatively easier and mre fun. And s, as I grew lder, I fund myself transitining twards graphic nvels frm childish cmic bks.
Graphic nvels dealt with serius tpics in a mre engaging manner. They wuld literally shw me what was ging n. Fr example, when I was reading Je Sacc’s Palestine, I didn’t have t imagine the ruin caused by the Israeli-Palestinian cnflict. I culd actually see it while reading abut it.
Fast-frward a few years t when I was given a cpy f Jnathan Blmfield’s Palestine: A Nvel. Thugh I was impressed by the cmpelling (扣人心弦的) nature f strytelling in his bk, I am nt sure if I wuld have been able t visualize and enjy his text-nly versin s much had I nt read Sacc’s Palestine first. Thanks t the graphic nvel, I had a “picture” f whatever had happened, and that made it easier and mre fun t understand the details f the verall stry.
Frm black and white strips and clrful cmic bks t illustrated graphic nvels, this type f strytelling has cme a lng way. While my rmance with cmic bks is still nging, in the lng run, my lve fr graphic nvels is mre substantial and here t stay.
    8. Why did the authr turn t cmic bks as a child?
    A. He fund cmic bks interesting.

They enabled me t enjy myself in a wrld withut iPads and the Internet ― just like s many f my friends wh were fnd f reading.(这一切始于对加菲猫及其冒险的喜爱,由此我发现了一系列漫画书,如《Champak》、《丁丁历险记》和《阿奇漫画》。 故选A项。
根据划线词所在句“While my access t cmics as a child was limited t what was printed in the newspaper, this changed nce I grew lder and started visiting bkstres t buy the bks that I wanted t read. Having grwn up n a diet f image-heavy bks, I fund the idea f reading text-nly nvels quite frmidable. 【10题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“Thugh I was impressed by the cmpelling (扣人心弦的) nature f strytelling in his bk, I am nt sure if I wuld have been able t visualize and enjy his text-nly versin s much had I nt read Sacc’s Palestine first. Thanks t the graphic nvel, I had a ‘picture’ f whatever had happened, and that made it easier and mre fun t understand the details f the verall stry. (虽然我被他书中扣人心弦的故事讲述所吸引,但如果我先没有读过Sacc的《Palestine》,我不确定我是否能够如此生动地想象并享受他的纯文本版本。多亏了这本图像小说,我对所发生的事情有了“画面”,这让我更容易也更有趣地理解整个故事的细节)”可知,作者认为读过Sacc的《Palestine》后,他能够更好地理解和享受Blmfield的纯文本小说。故选B项。
    【11题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,特别是根据最后一段“Frm black and white strips and clrful cmic bks t illustrated graphic nvels, this type f strytelling has cme a lng way. While my rmance with cmic bks is still nging, in the lng run, my lve fr graphic nvels is mre substantial and here t stay. (从黑白条幅、彩色漫画书到插图图像小说,这种讲故事的方式已经走过了很长的路。虽然我对漫画书的热爱仍在继续,但从长远来看,我对图像小说的热爱更加深厚,并将持续下去)”可知,文章主要讲述了作者为什么喜欢阅读图像小说。故选B项。

I lve teaching, but frm the stand at the frnt f the rm it can be hard t tell if yu're having any impact at all. Until ne day, yu get an email frm a frmer student detailing the influence yu had n their life. We tend t believe that thers are watching us less, listening t us less, and generally paying less attentin t us than they actually are. Psychlgist Erica Bthby and her clleagues cined the term the “invisibility clak illusin (隐身斗篷错觉)” t describe the invisibility we ften feel as we g abut ur daily lives.
In ne study, Bthby and her cauthrs surveyed students wh had been dining with thers in a busy campus dining hall. They randmly (随机地) assigned students exiting the dining hall t different cnditins. In ne cnditin, the students were asked hw much they fund themselves nticing r bserving the peple arund them in the dining hall (i.e., their behavir, manners and appearance), hw curius they had been abut the peple arund them, and the extent t which they had wndered what was ging n inside the heads peple arund them. Students assigned t anther cnditin were asked hw much they thught the ther peple in the dining hall were nticing r bserving them.
Participants' ratings f hw much they fund themselves bserving ther peple were mre than 67 percent higher than participants' ratings f hw much they thught ther peple were bserving them. Despite the fact that everyne is busy bserving everyne else, we tend t think we are smehw mre invisible than the peple arund us.
This research drives away the wrng idea that in rder t get smene t pay attentin t yu, yu have t wave yur hands arund and shut. Ad executives may need t pull ut all the stps in rder t grab peple's attentin, but yu dn't. Yu already have it. Yu are a persn, nt an ad r a tweet, and peple are wired t ntice ther peple. Mre than that, they are wired t wnder what ther peple are thinking, and t adjust their wn thughts and behavirs accrdingly. What this means is that yu are quietly influencing the peple arund yu all the time — withut even trying, and ften withut realizing it.
    12. What des the authr intend t shw by mentining his experience?
    A. He dislikes wrking as a teacher.B. He knws little abut his students.
    C. He fails t recgnize his influence.D. He has n cnfidence in his teaching.
    13. What did the study try t find ut abut the students?
    A. Ways they culd attract peple’s attentin.
    B. Kinds f peple they were mre likely t ntice.
    C. The degree they thught they were being bserved.
    D. Reasns why they nticed sme peple mre easily.
    14. Hw d peple adjust their wn thughts and behavirs accrding t the last paragraph?
    A. By bserving ther’s actins.B. By knwing their wn feelings.
    C. By shwing their wn behavirs.D. By understanding thers’ thughts.
    15. What des the text mainly talk abut?
    A. Peple need t understand each ther.B. Peple fcus t much n themselves.
    C. Peple are easily influenced by thers.D. Peple tend t ignre their wn influence.
C 13. C 14. D 15. D

根据最后段第四句“Mre than that, they are wired t wnder what ther peple are thinking, and t adjust their wn thughts and behavirs accrdingly.

由上文“What is an acceptable level f nline surveillance (监视)? I had assumed we all agreed that the ideal was nne. (什么是可以接受的在线监控水平?我认为我们都同意理想的情况是没有监控。)”和下文“But friends a decade r s yunger all seem t be tracking ne anther at will. They dn’t find the idea f mnitring r being mnitred in this way upsetting. They say it makes them feel safer. (快速询问我的朋友发现,那些像我一样40多岁及以上的人要么不知道他们可以这样使用手机,要么对这样做兴趣相对不大。)”可知,空处与上文构成转折关系,而且在线监控水平的流行程度因年龄而各有不同,B选项“But the truth is hw ppular it is depends n yur age. (但事实是它的流行程度取决于你的年龄。)”符合语境。故选B。
    【18题详解】
