A recent study has fund that using wd fr cnstructin instead f cncrete (混凝土) and steel can reduce emissins (排放). But Tim Searchinger at Princetn University says many f these studies are based n the false fundatin that harvesting wd is carbn neutral (碳中和). “Only a small percentage f the wd gets int a timber (木料) prduct, and a part f that gets int a timber prduct that can replace cncrete and steel in a building,” he says. Efficiencies vary in different cuntries, but large amunts f a harvested tree are left t be divided int parts, used in shrt-lived prducts like paper r burned fr energy, all f which generate emissins.
In a reprt fr the Wrld Resurces Institute, Searchinger and his clleagues have mdelled (塑造) hw using mre wd fr cnstructin wuld affect emissins between 2010 and 2050, accunting fr the emissins frm harvesting the wd. They cnsidered varius types f frests and parts f wd ging twards cnstructin. They als factred in the emissins savings frm replacing cncrete and steel.
Under sme circumstances, the researchers fund significant emissins reductins. But each case required what they cnsidered an unrealistically high prtin (份额) f the wd ging twards cnstructin, as well as rapid grwth nly seen in warmer places, like Brazil. In general, they fund a large increase in glbal demand fr wd wuld prbably lead t rising emissins fr decades. Accunting fr emissins in this way, the researchers reprted in a related paper that increasing frest harvests between 2010 and 2050 wuld add emissins equal t rughly 10 percent f ttal annual emissins.
Ali Amiri at Aalt University in Finland says the reprt’s cnclusins abut emissins frm rising demand are prbably crrect, but the stry is different fr wd we already harvest. “Bsting the efficiency f current harvests and using mre wd fr lnger lived purpses than paper wuld cut emissins,” he says. “We cannt just say we shuld stp using wd.”

Pineering backpacking travels befre the cncept was widespread, he presents this bk lking back at a lifetime f trials and stimulatin in the wild. £20.00, Bradt.
由文章最后一段中“Frm the 1500s t the present day cmes a memrable band f explrers and adventurers, scientists and craftsmen, pleasure-seekers and literary drifters sharing their experiences and asking themselves a questin — why travel this way in the first place? (从16世纪到现在,一群令人难忘的探险家和冒险家、科学家和工匠、寻欢作乐者和文学流浪者分享了他们的经历,并问自己一个问题——为什么要以这种方式旅行?)”可知,《Writers Walk the Wrld》收集了不同身份的人的经验。故选D。
3.细节理解题。由文章A Search fr Nearby Nature and Wilderness部分中“His latest bk, thugh, is a celebratin f slwing things dwn and discvering a small wild wrld right n yur drstep. It’s als a cry t revitalize Lndn’s neglected natural places in urban areas and ur right t wander in them. Over the next few hurs, Mandekic and McNee gave the kids techniques t imprve their shting while als helping them calculate their field-gal percentage — which, in turn, taught them abut fractins and decimal (分数和小数) pints. 5.细节理解题。根据第二段中“When the students shwed up fr their first day, they weren’t exactly excited.(当学生们第一天来的时候,他们并不怎么兴奋)”和“‘When the bell rang, they were s fixated n cllecting their data and figuring ut which team wn that they didn’t leave,’ says Mandekic. ‘I realized we might be nt smething.’(‘当铃声响起时,他们全神贯注于收集数据和计算哪支球队获胜,以至于他们都没有离开,’Mandekic说。‘我意识到我们可能找到了某种方法。’)”可知,是学生们对数学态度的改变让Mandekic和McNee意识到他们“可能找到了某种方法(might be nt smething)”。故选B项。
6.细节理解题。根据最后一段“‘If we didn’t d ur wrk, we weren’t playing at the game,’ he says, adding that caches wuld bench kids wh didn’t keep up in class.(‘如果我们不做作业,我们就不能参加比赛,’他说,并补充说教练会让跟不上课堂的孩子坐冷板凳)”可知,根据Duglas的说法,在课堂上表现不好的孩子将被禁止参加比赛。故选D项。
通读全文,结合第一段“The idea f mixing basketball and mathematics gt its first sht in 2011(将篮球和数学结合起来的想法在2011年首次得到尝试)”以及后文关于BallMatics课程的介绍可知,本文主要讲述了Dave McNee和Claudia Mandekic将篮球和数学结合起来,让学生在享受篮球的同时提高数学能力。
