Academician Yan Ning f the Chinese Academy f Sciences received the 2024 L’Oréal-UNESCO fr Wmen in Science Internatinal Award fr the Asia-Pacific regin at the UNESCO headquarters (总部)in Paris n May 28. The Awards, established by the L’Oréal Crprate Fundatin and UNESCO in 1998, aims t imprve the psitin f wmen in science by recgnizing utstanding wrnen researchers wh have cntributed t scientific prgress in life sciences r physical sciences, mathematics, and cmputer science. In much f the western United States, drught and access t fresh water is a critical issue. Hwever, recently Califrnia came up with a nvel sltin. The state apprved regulatins that allw agencies t purify wastewater fr drinking. This recycled wastewater may be cnsumed in hmes, schls, and businesses.
As the ppulatin in Califrnia has explded in recent decades, the state has struggled t meet demands fr fresh water. Recycled wastewater will allw the state t increase access t the precius resurce.
Recycled wastewater is nt new t the state. It has previusly been used in ice hckey rinks(冰球场),fr crps, and t generate artificial snw.
