Have yu ever read a bk and fund that ne f the characters is exactly yur carbn cpy? And yu relate t the character s well that yu can’t help but wnder if the authr had smehw bserved yur wn life? Well, that is Anne Shirley frm Anne f Green Gables fr me.
There are many instances in the bk where I particularly felt cnnected t little Anne, like the ne where she des a perfrmance at a schl cncert. Althugh she has gne up n stage several times befre, this is the time she gets a taste f stage fright. The same thing happened t me during a petry cmpetitin in high schl. Never did I find the stage as intimidating as I did n that day. There’s anther situatin where her friends dn’t miss hme as much, while Anne is terribly hmesick. I culd imagine hw Anne feels. I’ve always wndered hw peple can mve ut f a place where they’ve spent their entire childhd and nt feel even a pinch f srrw.
Whether it is the wrld f imaginatin that she lves t weave, r the experience f grwing up as a lnely child, r the beautiful mments f daydreaming, r her fndness fr nature, Anne is me, thrugh and thrugh. As I read thrugh the chapters learning abut her chattering nature as a kid that grew quieter during adlescence and the respect fr her teachers, I saw myself in her.
I grew s clse t Anne and her friendships, her schl and her dear little Green Gables and its inhabitants, that I culdn’t cntrl my tears when I finished reading the last chapter. That’s what bks d. They give yu the freedm t live inside their fictinal wrld even when yu’re aware that yu’re nly a reader wh exists utside. And althugh yur existence inside that fictinal wrld is imaginary and temprary, yu end up cherishing that experience fr a lifetime.

There’s a lt that g int an Olympic athlete’s winning gld medals — years f training and an athlete’s age. A team f University f Waterl students used data t figure ut when an Olympic track-and-field athletes’ peak perfrmance will be.
Track-and-field includes running, jumping, thrwing, and ther events. Mst athletes’ career perfrmance prgressins can typically be described as a bell curve (钟形曲线), in which they train ver several years t reach their best perfrmance, at a certain age and then gradually decrease.
The researchers studied the year-by-year career perfrmance data frm every track and field athlete wh has cmpeted in an individual event at an Olympics since the 1996 Games in Atlanta. They analyzed the data that cnsidered five factrs: man r wman, natinality, event type, hw lng the athlete had been training at a high level, and whether r nt it was an Olympic year.
They fund that the average age f participatin f Olympic track-and-field athletes has remained remarkably similar fr bth men and wmen ver the past three decades: just under 27 years ld. "Interestingly enugh, ur study als shwed that n average the peak age fr these athletes was 27," said David Awsga, the lead authr n the research.
After the age f 27, there is nly a 44% prbability that an athlete’s peak is still ahead f them, and this number drps every year. "Age, hwever, isn’t the nly factr in an athlete’s peak," said Matthew Chw, c-authr f the research.
While the researchers emphasize that their analysis is mainly in thery, they hpe the findings can be helpful fr bth athletes and fans. "Our main takeaway is that we have established a list f variables (变量) that help predict when yur peak will be," Awsga said. "Yu can’t change the year f the Olympics, yur genetics, r yur natinality, but yu might change yur training t better g with these bilgical and external factrs."

    A.Character.
    B.Gender.

D.When speaking t thers, try yur best t hide yur bdy language.
    15. What can be a suitable title fr the text?
    A.Keeping prper bdy language
    B.Using yur bdy t cmmunicate

Nw Fd fr Families has been given its wn helping hand, thanks t £5,000 frm C-p’s Winners Share It All prize draw activity."
Hw yu can get invlved"部分内容"Simply chse yur Lcal Cmmunity Fund cause thrugh the C-p website r app. Then spend £5, either in-stre r nline thrugh Scan yur membership card and yu will be entered every mnth fr a chance t win big fr yu and yur cmmunity. Members get additinal entries fr every £5 spent."
    7.答案: A
They analyzed the data that cnsidered five factrs: man r wman, natinality, event type, hw lng the athlete had been training at a high level, and whether f nt it was an Olympic year.
Interestingly enugh, ur study als shwed that n average the peak age fr these athletes was 27(有趣的是,我们的研究还表明,这些运动员的平均巅峰年龄是27岁)可知,田径冠军的平均巅峰年龄是27岁。故选C项。
    10.答案: A
Our main takeaway is that we have established a list f variables(变量) that help predict when yur peak will be (我们的主要结论是,我们已经建立了一个变量列表,可以帮助预测你的巅峰出现的时间)和Yu can’t change the year f the Olympics, yur genetics, r yur natinality, but yu might change yur training t better g with these bilgical and external factrs.(你不能改变奥运会的年份,你的基因,或者你的国籍,但你可以改变你的训练,以更好地适应这些生理和外部因素)可知,Awsga指出他们的研究可以帮助预测田径运动员巅峰出现的时间,从而通过调整训练来适应不可变的生理和外部因素。 故选A项。
    12.答案: A
Bdy language can be cnscius r uncnscius actins, s it is imprtant t make sure yur bdy is sending the same messages as yur wrds t ensure gd cmmunicatin. These nnverbal cues can strengthen the verbal messages yu’re sending r lead t mistrust r cnfusin - signs f pr cmmunicatin and misunderstanding."
    13.答案: C
解析: 第二段先是提到身体语言会带来新挑战,有些非言语信号会无意地传达出我们不想让别人知道的自身情况,接着举例"bad psture r fidgeting (坐立不安) may cmmunicate lack f cnfidence, smething we may nt intend fr thers t knw abut us."
    14.答案: A
(Prper bdy language can help us in gaining cnfidence),所以选择A选项。
Bdy language is an essential part f cmmunicatin and can be just as imprtant as ur verbal (口头的) exchanges.",接着围绕身体语言在沟通中的作用、影响以及如何利用它来更好地沟通、获得自信等方面进行阐述,强调的是利用身体进行沟通(Using yur bdy t cmmunicate)这一主题,所以选择B选项。
    18.答案: B
    解析: "It struck me that..."
I hadn’t nticed he was becming frgetful"可知,作者之前没注意到父亲变得健忘,也就是错过了很多能体现父亲状态变化的迹象(signs),所以选择D选项。
    20.答案: A
All these emtins were swirling arund —relief that we knew what was ging n, ____27____ abut what the future held and, mst f all, gut-wrenching sadness."
    23.答案: A
I hugged him saying it wasn’t his ____31____."
    28.答案: A
    解析: 根据后文"by the end f 2022 he was in a wheelchair"可知,父亲的阿尔茨海默病相对(relatively)发展得很快,所以短时间内就坐上了轮椅,所以选择A选项。
Mum was determined t keep Dad at hme with us fr as lng as pssible."
    30.答案: C
解析: 根据后文"because I always saw in his eyes hw much he lved me"可知,作者觉得自己有机会陪伴(accmpany)父亲是幸运的,能从父亲眼中看到对自己的爱,所以选择C选项。
    31.答案: D
解析: 根据后文"but when yu lve smene, yu d whatever yu can t make life OK fr them"可知,虽然照顾病人似乎是个挑战(challenge),但因为爱着对方,就会尽力让对方生活好一些,所以选择D选项。
32.答案: its; brighten; trying; initially; attractive; a; questins; with; has shared; where
